I've done a couple IM ventures to date, but now I'm starting my first website that will be very dependent on SEO and I'm looking into some backlink packages. I'm concerned about how easy/hard it is for Google to catch blackhat links, because my site will be very dependent on being indexed in Google. I'm going to be using whitehat tactics as well (YouTube videos and articles), but I'd like that extra boost to start climbing the rankings ladder quicker.

Any suggestions on alternative SEO methods, or will I be ok with doing some blasts/BH links? Any info is much appreciated! Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend so far :)

White Hat sites are in risk of being penalised these days as are Black Hat sites. No site seems to be safe from the updates.

I wouldn't depend on Google if I was you...

But, there are some good quality packages in the marketplace which you should take a look at, I have used a few in the past and survived updates etc.

Thanks. It won't completely depend on Google but I really want it to rank. Like I said, I will still have youtube vids and articles to fall back on, so those will still bring me traffic but google traffic is way more targeted and the amount is what I'm after as well. Any packages listed here on BHW that you would recommend from your experience?

Also one other question. I looked up one of my main keywords and dropped the #1 spot on google in Alexa to see what their ratings are. They are over 2 million on the worldwide traffic scale (absolutely horrible) and only have ONE site linking in. How is it even possible for these guys to have the top spot in google for a medium-competition keyword with crap traffic and one site linking in? SEO is really not my area of expertise but I am trying to learn as much as I can because this is my first step towards doing IM full-time.

Well one reason could be that it has only just recently ranked. Alexa doesn't update their links very often and they are no where near accurate. I have a site that has around 9k backlinks yet Alexa only shows 200.

I think they update the rankings daily although I am not 100% on that.

Lol. No, I guess I mean the soft-as-boobs "mainstream blackhat" methods.

If you avoid the blatantly illegal tactics such as cookie stuffing and violating CAN-SPAM the worst that will happen is the occasional C&D letter and site slap from Google.

The main risk is getting filthy rich and not knowing what to do with your money :/

Thanks bert, I don't plan on cookie stuffing or doing anything against CAN-SPAM.

My thoughts are this too. Google is a right pain in the ass so it's worth expanding or moving to a state where your less reliant on Google and are bringing in other methods.

Even Bing / Yahoo does okay for me these days, and once you get a rank it tends to stick for along time.

If you need to bank off Google traffic and you're not familiar with black hat I don't suggest you do it on your own. More likely than not you'll get your own site ban. Yes, black hat can and does work great and you can totally get away with it IF you know how. That's the tough part. Either way, best of luck.

Thanks, I am completely new to blackhat SEO and I definitely don't want to get my site banned. If I do go with BH SEO, I would purchase a package instead of doing it myself, my main concern was how easily Google can detect BH links, even if you have a company do it for you.

It's really about how they go about the black hat.

For example, there are techniques to:
    - offset black hat with white hat (hybrid method)
    - transitioning strategies (letting BH links die over time and switch over to WH links), mainly using the BH for a quick boost
    - link ghosting (hiding the source of your links) this can be used in white hat / black hat campaigns

Some people are stupid with black hat and just fire up scrapebox or xrumer and rank for 1 day and perma ban their site.

Here's a few things you (or your vendor) need to understand:
    - Rapid indexing/crawling drip rates
    - Time staggering links properly
    - Mimicking viral bursts of links
    - How link types interact with each other for multi-tiering ... For example A to B is not the same as B to A.
    - The right volume of each link type on each tier

My question is: what are the risks of black hat SEO in 10-20 years?

Very good question. But with the focus on short-term, greedy money, people probably don't even consider how their website will be affected in 10 years.

The risk of blackhat is getting caught doing it. Therefore, don't depend on google to much.

Herpes. People forget to mention herpes... Black Hat gave it to me. Never called back either. And I'm pretty sure it stole my watch.

If you're really worried about blackhat tactics getting you deindexed, act as your own affiliate marketer. If possible, set up an actual affiliate program so that these websites will not look like yours during a manual review. Use blackhat to rank websites that recommend your service by any means necessary, and be patient with getting whitehat ranking for your real website.
