I've researched a few niches, feel like I am in the right place, but before I move forward I would like to drill a test hole if you will and see if there is traffic there and money to be made before investing more money into my project.

Can anyone shed some light on ways to go about testing a niche via SEO strategies using Web 2.0 properties? Or talk about any strategy that within a week or 2 will give more insight into whether or not a niche should be entered into etc.,

this is why there is something known as keyword research . use both free & paid tools such as google adwords planner & market samurai to find queries that can bring related traffic to your website .

Well the obvious answer is Google Analytics as a free & accurate way to measure traffic. Not sure why you would want to use a Web 2.0 property; why not just buy a domain name for $2.00, install wordpress and run with that? Hostgator's second-tier hosting package gives you unlimited number of sites that you can host on a single account.

From previous topics on BHW, I found that majority of users had stated that market samurai is not so great any longer and keyword planner is sufficient and FREE. Do you still use Market Samurai with success for niche content/website development with actual ROI?

    1. Create a wordpress/blogspot blog 2. Write some articles 3. Throw $10-50 worth of massive amount of backlinks 4. Hope you rank. If you do- you now know whether or not the niche is good

Not that I like the idea of throwing money at google...but if you want a very quick way of knowing if there is traffic and money to be made, you can throw up a 2.0 blog, and start pushing Adwords traffic to it. Spend $10-$20 in adwords, and see how much traffic comes. You'll be able to know how many impressions you are getting, what the click through rate looks like, and you'll get some long tail keywords too.

In addition, i'll check the niche with Traffic Travis, it gets the Difficulty Level from the Keyword Diffycult Tool from MOZ. Is is lower than 30% should be relatively easy to rank there!
