Is there a list of sites that I should do basic white hat link building? I launched a fresh site with quite a bit of content and 0 backlinks and would like to do some basic manual white hat link building.

Which social bookmarking sites, web2.0 and wiki sites should I be backlinking from without spamming?

    Thanks

You can start out with the following to be on safer side :

    Web 2.0

    Code:
    wordpress.com
    blogger.com
    tumblr.com
    jimdo.com
    weebly.com
    wix.com
    webs.com
    edublogs.org
    evernote.com
    yola.com
    webnode.com
    blog.com
    zimbio.com
    ucoz.com
    wikia.com
    overblog.com

    Social Bookmarking

    Code:
    twitter.com
    pinterest.com
    delicious.com
    reddit.com
    sourceforge.net
    tumblr.com
    slashdot.org
    diigo.com
    newsvine.com
    plurk.com
    folkd.com
    zotero.org

Stay clear from Wiki sites if you want to go whitehat.

start with WEB 2.0 look around the forum for the lists, and you can always check some fiverr gigs for the start if you need help.
I would post the list but since I'm new and not a donor yet, i simply can't, sorry. :)
And don`t waste too much time on wikis, they`re mostly dead. go social, make a video and do video submissions, also some article submission and press releases... well, for a start.

    Hey PreSearch,

I would add the following as well: Reach out to popular or semi-popular "gurus" in your niche, and offer something of value for them. Value = awesome article, a small video helping their audience, a small service for them for free, etc. In exchange for a backlink.

    Action steps:

    1) Make a list of 10 blogs/gurus in your niche that are popular.
    2) Get their contact info
    3) Craft a semi unique message offering value first (don't ask for a backlink in the first exchange). For example: "Hey John, I really enjoyed your latest blog post about XYZ. Im actually an expert in this area (see proof here:), I feel like your audience could benefit if we added the following perspective/take on the subject. Perhaps I could send you a small article on the topic? Let me know"
    4) Rinse and repeat. You probably won't hear back the first time, so don't despair. Just email again 2 weeks later with a slightly different message.

This will get you quality backlinks.
