What are internal links and why are they important for SEO?
They provide relevance to Google and helps it figure out what your website is about. Links within your website

internal contextual links allow you to direct link juice where you want. Some call it "sculpting"
If you build your website in a smart way, your internal structure will reduce the need of external backlinks by a great deal.
This is why Silo websites are powerful
Think of them like any other link. It’s basically an endorsement of one page from another. Unlike external links, the great thing is they are free and easy to build so don’t waste that opportunity.
Links inside your website directing to different pages and documents of that site. Let's say you have a site that you want to rank with inner pages. Interlinking is important to give authority and link juice from main homepage (domain) to inner pages, so it's a good idea to link to those pages from your homepage. With new sites I usually suggest starting link building to the main domain which gives overall authority. If you want to rank inner pages then you should do interlinking to those from the homepage. Second phase of link building would then be getting backlinks to the pages directly with kw anchors to give direct link juice. Hope that makes sense.
It increases time on site too
Read this small book:
Each of your internal page can give a boost to another page of your website. Yeah, it's like boiling in your own juice but it works.
its like targeting projectiles to the same spot
a larger impact occurs which you see in serps
target it at the pages you need ranked
if you do it from relevant pages in a hierarchy then you have silo linking
Separate names with a comma.
