Hi guys, im new to IM and so far i have been trying to get backlinks from competitors, but im having really wierd problems.

Ok so the first thing i do is to find some highly competitive keywords, because to rank up for these means they must have some powerfull backlinks.

Next i get the top 10 ranking pages for that keyword.

Then i get a list of backlinks for one of the top 10 websites, and filter it by the word "blog".

However, the problem is that all the blogs i have found this way is nofollow!

I don't understand, i know many people that find blogs like this and get backlinks.

    Am i doing something wrong?

    Thanks

Most blogs are no-follow. Those links still work. They're part of a natural mix of back links. Go after them.

Also, try less competitive, long tail keywords.

Having a mix of do- and no-follow backlinks is good for your link profile, although aim to have mostly do-follow links.

But i tought noFollow links are useless for ranking?

So then what is the use of these software like SEO Spyglass that shows you all the backlinks from competitor sites if they are all no-follow?

Not true. If you were to build a large number of backlinks to your site that are all do-follow I guarantee google will know that you're link spamming. It's un-natural, not the way the web works, and that's part of what they're looking for in your linking.

There is some testing that proves otherwise. Anyone here who has gotten multiple Wikipedia links can tell you what it does for rankings.

That depends on the site. For example, if you've been posting great content on it regularly, then it will get crawled pretty often.

Sometimes indexing of links happens naturally, for example, if they are on a site that gets crawled frequently. Sometimes you have to give them a helping hand.

Hmmm... ok, i will try to mix it up. Do you guys think i should use software like ScrapeBox , SEO Spyglass, and Niche Market Finder or should i manually build links since its my first attempt and i only have one site?

    Thanks
