What am I doing wrong in my app marketing? (I suck)

    Hi All!

    I'm new around, and first of all, I suck at promoting my app.

    Our latest app, a space shoot'em up, has been out for nearly 2 weeks now, and it's really not catching up. We spent around 400$ in promotion, mostly non-organic install from ayetStudio and app2top.


    But we couldn't reach top 100 in any country (mostly because we tried Canada, Germany and India and they were ether too expensive, or the providers didn't have enought downloads (Canada).


    2 days ago I went with x.waypedia and bought 500 downloads in canada, we should get me in top 100 new free action in theory, but google play didn't update his statistic yet.


    To see my app, search for Space Conflict : War Commander by Omegabyte on Google Play or search Space Conflict by Gabriel Veilleux on App Store. You can also find Space Conflict on newgrounds.


    I also did some marketing on reddit and facebook and some mobile forum. I also did a promocode post on reddit and got 150 downloads free that way! (that was our most succesful method)


    So overall I got what i think is a good game (for a indie dev), a good youtube trailer, available on Android, iOs and Web (newgrounds), we spent money on promotion ect.. But still no result. I'm getting maybe 8-10 downloads on each version (iOs and Android).


    How can I do better and stop sucking at marketing?

    i think google has a advertising for apps where you pay per click or something, never used it but you might wana look at that.

    Apps sometimes just take off, other times you invest months of energy, time and even invest in paid advertising and still you can't get it to a positive ROI.

    Since individuals or small companies don't have the budget to do large scale market analysis, maybe perhaps sometimes the market just doesn't want what is on offer. Sometimes the timing is off, etc...

    so very little people interesting of that

    yeah I think it's way over satured now. 3 years ago we made a simple apps with no marketing and got 20k downloads on it. Still low, but it was fine for us. Now I can't get 100 organic downloads.

    Put your app on SlideME. I have stuff on the app store but I get 10X+ the downloads from SlideME. They have strict quality control and you cant use the Google Plays (they have their own IAP) store but if you're Ad supported it a nice alternative.

    Hi there, besides social media and forums, there are some other promotion methods for you:

    Analyze your competitor
    By analyzing your competitors, you can learn about more channels of marketing.

    Press Release
    Press Release will obtain very positive results thanks to the “newness” factor associated with Apps. You will post your app features on the press release sites, related column, etc.

    Blog Promotion
    It is something like PR. It is your own blog, which means that you can introduce your app comprihensively. And you also can post the blog in some marketing sites like Quora reach more people.

    Get positive reviews and ratings
    App which has more positive reviews and 4/5 star ratings is more likely to be downloaded by audiences. Therefore, you can invite your friends, families, followers on social media and users to write positive reviews on your app.

    cross promotion
    if you have published more app that have received good responses, you can use the platform completely to advertise your app, because the potential audiences are the precious resources for your new app.

    special website
    you can put your app on some special websites, like classified sites and review sites. The installs will increased when audience browsing these websites.

    Create a Dedicated Website
    Google Play Store and the App Store limit the number of words you can use to describe your app. A dedicated site gives you all the freedom you want in order to tell people about your app. Creating a website may cost you, but there are many hosting solutions that make it almost free. You can create a site yourself using easy-to-use templates.

    App store optimization

    App store optmization is the process of optimizing your app so that your app ranks higher than before and becomes more visible to users. You can optimize your app from the following aspects: keywords, icon, title, description, screenshots…If you don't know much about ASO, you can consult app store optimization companies, which provide proffesional ASO service.

    Select an appropriate category

    It is important to get your app feature in appropriate categories as that will help store filters to present your app to audience who actually want it.

    Advertizing
    Advertisement is good experience for apps. You can advertize your app on app store, google, platforms of social media, etc. Also, try ads on some special forums related to your app, such as iOS forum and Android marketing forum.

    Email marketing
    Email marketing is the more direct way to approach your potential users. You can collect your potential users' email adresses on the internet.

    Submit App for Reviews
    Another strategy to promote your app for free is to add it to as many app review sites as possible. The more reviews you have off your app store page, the more backlinks you will have. When you submit your app for reviews, it also helps get more exposure.

    Hi, sorry to hear that and welcome to the club. You already went through long way and you could manage to finish something and put it to store, congrats!.
    Now it is time to face awful truth. The truth , all indie developers afraid to face. You have FAILED. Yes it is true. %80 of developers fail and you are one of them. So it is time to face it but it is a good thing at the same time. You have failed and you know it , you have failed early and failed hard.
    Now, it is time to make a decision. You will accept failure and move on or you will continue trying to make hearth massage to death body. It is time to learn from your failures and try to understand what went wrong and don't repeat same mistakes again.

    The games is a niche satured now. Maybe you need to find a popular niche, something viral on youtube, some "challenge" game or similar.

    I recommend you do not stop trying, try other applications and games. I also recommend that you do not use AyetStudios or App2Top, since Google does not like the incentive facilities. I recommend more Facebook Ads or Adwords even more expensive.

    stop this bullshit , keyword install doesnt work anymore in 2017, Google updated their algorithm and sweep this kind of install. You will just get your app suspended.

    I used keyapp.top in the past and works for me. I rank 30-40 position on my keyword.

    I wish there was a magic bullet people can give but I would check the following areas/ideas:

    - Obviously make your app fun, good quality and engaging
    - Invest is great graphics specially app icon - I believe app icon can make or break u
    - Instead of buying installs run contests - say you wanna buy shitty installs for 500 bucks? Create a contest and giveaway 5 $100 paypal or Amazon - I saw people getting nice action with this. I am planning to try this in my new app my self
    - Bird told me email marketing your app could work - think send contest to a targeted opt in list
    - Good ASO and pick up good keywords! Research keywords, short list and research some more sensortower is nice

    BTW I tried to find ur app in the store and I dont see it

    well it seems to be i can help you with the installs not only that and can assure you that user can play the game to some days so that it will fetch more organic installs and help you to reach top position
