I really seem to be having trouble with backlink building, to be honest it is actually driving me totally nuts!

I've read most the guides on BHW, and they are great, they really are. My problem is with how long backlinking takes me. I get maybe 2 quality backlinks an hour!

    Here's the problem:
    1) I target a spammer comment on a blog.
    2) I copy the spammers link and put it into backlinkwatch or similar.
    3) I get a list of backlinks - usually in the hundreds.
    4) I goto the high quality sites, with a low number of OBL.
    5) I post a comment.
    6) The site is nearly always moderated!! My comments get through maybe 15% to 20% of the time. I post relevant comments, but I suspect it is the single link dropping which causes the problem (even though many others do this).
    7) I repeat the same process until I find an un-moderated site.

Following this, I get maybe 2 quality backlinks an hour, which is terrible.

Since the middle of July, I have collected around 1000 useable sites. Of those, only 50 or so are un-moderated.

What am I doing wrong here?

I think you are spending too much time on the links by doing it manually. If you are really interested in doing it manually then just download the paul's and angela's backlink book...it is in the download section i guess....there are some high PR sites and it will save you time and most of the time you will not be moderated at those sites....

Ditto that. Get copies of Angela's or Paul's backlinks. Get Fran's monthly automation sets for Roboform as well to cut down on the time it takes you to do them.

Other products like Backlink Goldmine are even better. If you know what you are doing you can throw up hundreds of links that fly under the radar.

I can put together about 800 links split between two sites in 18 hours. This involves creating 400 accounts (about 9 hours) then logging into them a day later with automation scrips and uploading a blog or image post to these sites that has two links plugged in it. 400 post x 2 links = 800 links.

Once you do a run a few times you have a number of accounts on each of these sites so you can stop the account creation stage (which takes the most time) and move on to just uploading links.

It also take an extra hour and a half once I drop the link post on the sites to grab all the URLs and bookmark them so they are quickly found by the search engines.

Kendra, I don't know where you're going wrong. I do pretty much what you've listed here and I never find moderated sites. The very fact that spam links have stuck and can be displayed in a BLW profile is usually due to them being on unmoderated sites.

The power of my method comes from doing a site: search and finding all of an unmoderated site's high PR pages. When you've found one, that means you've usually found 20.

Remember, angela's backlinks and web 2.0s start off with PR n/a.

    Thanks for all the comments.

I haven't actually been posting in profiles. I've been posting in blog comments. Maybe I should be doing both?

Tousif and Michigan, I've considered using those packs - and maybe I will go for it in the end. But at the moment I really would like to build my own base of backlinks.

Micallef, I also do a site: search and filter according to PR. I've noticed that if I pull a Spammer's link from an unmoderated site, there's often a good chance they have posted on other unmoderated sites. Even still, it seems very slow going for me. Maybe it is just the 'luck of the draw' and I am just choosing moderating sites by 'coincidence'.

How many good sites do you tend to find in any given backlinking session?

EDIT: Also, do you tend to go for blog commenting on sites which require registration? Maybe this is one of the things which is eating into my time...

In a good 2 hour session, I'll find about 20 usable domains each with upwards of 20 high PR pages. I've been doing this for a while though - I know what to look for, and which sites not to bother clicking on. The clues are in the URL.

On a bad day though I can come out with only about 5 decent domains. My record is around 40.

About 60% of the sites I use require registration. It takes 30 seconds.

Ok thanks. I will keep at it, and see if I can refine my technique a little more, you're getting some good numbers.
