Okay so, when submitting unique content to ezinearticles.com or any other article directory, that the article is on your blog. Do you have to wait for the article to be indexed on your site by Google before its indexed on ezine? Is there anyway to avoid the articles outranking your site severely in the SERPS. I don't want to be getting traffic to the articles and not the actual page on my site. Also, it is okay to publish your own written articles on these directories without having them spun?

No need to worry about getting indexed before submitting to eza; articles will pretty much out rank your right from the get go unless your site is pretty big and has lots of links. Your site will eventually outrank it, provided you back link and add content

You can submit all of your articles to eza too

Most good article sites do not accept duplicate content. Also article sites are highly likely to outrank your site when the content is similar due to their higher PR.

Use your own good quality articles on your site. If you want to submit the same article to eza make sure it is a good spun version or a rewrite. You can use lower quality spun articles for other article directories.

If you have the same article on both your site and ezine articles, then ezine articles will most likely always outrank your site.

Don't bother submitting the same content to both sites, at least use a variation of the article to prevent duplicate content.

If you're submitting an article to EZA it DOESN'T have to be different. Post your article on your own site and then post the same article on EZA and other directories. Google will pick up the fact that the article went live on your site first.

Article directories will always outrank you, unless you do some good SEO on your sites article and build backlinks to that page.

Duplicate content only comes into play if the duplicate content is on your own site. Hell, if you really wanted to make sure...just add a few more paragraphs to the beginning and end of your article that's on your site with the main keyword in both paragraphs...and change the title a bit.

I was talking about article sites in general, i am not sure about ezine since I never submitted to them but in hubpages and another site I submitted to (newsvine? not sure now) my article got rejected automatically (they have an algorithm I guess) due to duplicate content.

They don't actually pick this up, but it's not really important.

The thing to think about is that just because G thinks the copy on EZA is relevant doesn't mean it thinks yours is relevant. Your copy might be down at 3hundred something and it'd be even lower if the EZA copy was gone.
