So I have a sales thread there....and as many of you know, that forum was recently bought out by Freelancer.

Well...for the first time today I got an automated PM telling me that my sales thread had fallen off the first page, but not to worry?for a measly $200, I could sticky my thread for.....24 hours.

    lol, moar greed please.

That is ridiculous since you could buy some decent media space for that price.

Yeah, it was $99 before the switch, I think. I wouldn't go for that either. $200 is just insane. With the rate at which the listings fall, even $99 would never be worthwhile.

    $6000 per month.

That's ridiculous - there are so many better ways to use that sort of money.

Does this mean we can expect even more WF newbies coming here to hawk their shit?

$24,000, since they allow 4 stickies per day.

"We have limited it to only 4 spots to maximize your exposure."

Um....no, that's not maximizing anything. That means I'm competing with 3 other people. Derp.

More WF noobs over here..idk, since they dropped the WSO listing fee to $20.

Of course it means you can't sell anything on there now without an army of affiliates supporting you. Oh well, the noobs won't realize it and Freelancer will make all their money back while driving WF into the ground.

I'll be honest, although I post there quite frequently I'm not a big fan of the environment at WF. I think it's a hostile environment for newbies and doesn't foster a community learning atmosphere. There's a lot of group-think there and they definitely don't encourage dissenting opinions.

It's kind of like Larry The Cable Guy said (paraphrashing) "I was at the swap meet and guy asks how much for these. I told him $10 each. He bought all 6. Damn I could have gotten more for them." Then "I went to the diner and waitress asks me if she could help us with anything so I told her I could use a shoulder rub. She did & I was like damn I could have asked for more!"

Man, WF has always been a self-congratulatory circle-jerk, but it's so much worse now. The home page is full of crappy images. Do they really think a banner is going to get people to fork over $20 to join their exclusive sub forum if they haven't already? The only reason I did was because it helps sales. Casual users won't get anything out of it. It's full of crap info and lame sales pitches.

The Ask Me Anything feature looks mildly interesting, but I'm sure—although I don't care enough to confirm this—that it's little more than a sales kiosk for the people they're interviewing. I wouldn't be surprised if each interviewee is forking over $1000 or more to be featured.

No doubt, but their traffic is dropping fast, and the forum was a mess with spam posts this morning. I think they only got around 300,000 uniques in April. That's pretty crappy for "the largest Internet marketing forum in the world."

It's somewhat surprising, but their zombies—I mean regular posters—are actually being quite vocal, and it seems they aren't being reprimanded. Freelancer will want to get a handle on that. :p There's lots of people bitching about the images on the home page as well as the spam.

No doubt Freelancer will recoup their investment, but I suspect that WF will become the next Digital Point within a few years.

It would be nice—and this is just my humble opinion—if they would raise the price of opening a sales thread to $100. I don't mind competition, but when I pay $20 to bump and I've already been competing with idiots that pay $200 for a 24 hour sticky, I don't want to drop to the second half of the first page within a few hours. I think that's where it's heading.
