I finally built a site that was making decent money anywhere from $40-80 a day (non-adsense). I've been trying to rank for "kw1 kw2 kw3" which has 1600 exact searches a month and I was getting good traffic, around 300-500 people a day. I built the site on the 8th of this month and have had 2 day period where my site drop out of Google completely for 2-3 days, I was backlinking and knew this was the dance.

Site comes back and everything is honky-dohry

About 36 hours ago I was surprised to see that I was number 2 for "kw1 kw2" which get's 165k searches a month, needless to say my traffic exploded, I hit over 1200 unique visitors today and made some nice $.

Then the reason for this post.

I just ran traffic traffic and I'm completely gone.....again! I manually searched all the pages of G because Traffic Travis v4 sucks and can't update and there I saw my glorious site sitting in the middle of the 68th page, it's titles and description begging to be clicked so the customer could land on my beautify designed site that I poured my heart and soul into.....for about an hour haha, no joke though, it looks good.

I'm sure this is another dance but my stress level with this one site is killing me, I just want it to stay put. I have done manual backlinking for this one as I was lucky to get an EMD for the search term and wanted to make sure this site was prefect, my efforts paid off nice already but I just want the bounce to stop.

Anyways, if you made it this far in my post congrats, I'm just frustrated and explaining this to the one friend in ear shot who knows nothing about SEO means this is the only place I can speak my frustration out!

P.s I've screwed up a few sites in the past, meaning that they never came back from a big drop. However this one went to page 68, which is not like being dropped to position 50. So would you guys say this is indeed the dance (I've been doing high pr (3-7) manual blog comments and web 2.0 sites) or does that big of a hit sound like just like that, a "hit"?

this is unfortunate for you, I can relate to drops however I haven't had a site drop as significantly as yours. At the minute I work for a large auto site and we target the top car keywords and at the minute, the dance we have been seeing is only 5-6 positions. Like I said, I haven't seen such huge drops in a dance past 1-2 pages.

We have had a -50 ban on some of our network sites which we are trying to figure out why so maybe there is some punishment being handed out and it isn't a dance. I have found on our site, that Traffic Travis shows a "W" shape in the graph which then veers upwards after about a week or two. I have attributed this to a dance.

I hope it all works out for you and you get your traffic back! How are you monitizing the site, by affiliate? just out of interest...

Thanks for the support and sharing some of your personal experience. I know, this is a huge drop, the only thing I can attribute to this is the age of the domain. For the last 4-5 days it's been bouncing 1 or 2 spots here and there but then this happened.

    Yes, it's an affiliate site.

Ahh my friend, they may have won the battle but I will NOT lose the war!
SEO is like virtual war to me and really it is if you think about it. I just see this as another learning point and I do believe the site will come back.

if it comes back, i think you must consider selling it. But would you let the site go?

I've never sold a site, I might have to look into just to see what it's worth.

A little update, the site is bouncing around like made in big G.

I was in the 800's then the 3-400 range and now I'm gone again for my main keyword. It's weird, my main url is what I'm trying to rank but my contact page is what is still in G and is ranking for my main keywords, still in the 300+ range though.

I have some .edu and .gov links being made for it right now so we'll see if those help.

Happy to say that I'm number 1 in Yahoo and Bing though for my main KW and still making some amount of money each day. The traffic is no where near what I get from G though, I mean, I know that Yahoo and Bing are not as big as G but I mean I went from 1,500+ unique views down to 225+ today, but still got some sales so I'm not complaining. Just want it to come back in G.

Same thing happened to me. someone on the forum was saying how they think google will take you down for some time, and then put you back to see if anything has been changed or updated. Kinda like a second chance at google love. And if its not good enough they dump you again for the younger hotter model.

Dive deeper into the way you are building links.

Where are the coming from? Are they all blog comments as you mentioned?
How much diversity of anchor text do you have with incoming links?
Are you linking to internal pages, are you using different anchor text for those pages?
Are you building "natural" non anchor text, such as URL links?
What kind of content do you have on the site?
    What is your bounce rate?

    Let's start with those....

    That is why.
You cannot expect stable rankings on a site that is less than 30 days old.
Keep at it. These are the pains of SEO.

I'm the winner now. Site hit #1 about a week ago and is holding steady. It's a seasonal site and so I'm going to make a killing in October ;)

Even though it's seasonal I'm still making a couple sales a week from it so I'm happy.

    P.s DamageX

I know I've mentioned it before in a past thread but you have no idea how fired up I was when I read your comment. I stopped the small pity party I was having after reading it back then and dug my heels in and busted my ass. The site slowly started to dig its way to the top and I'm back to say, IM THE WINNER! haha

    Peace.
