I was on page 6. I did a little backlinking this past week. few high quality sites (4 PR5, 5 Pr4, 10 PR3)...no crappy sites since quality is better than quantity these days. So today I checked and guess what? after all this hard work, I am finally on page 12 (this is not a typo, its twelve)!
gee, thanks google, my hard work finally paid off.

Official motto for SEO should be: "try, try again." And once you're finally #1, you won't be there for long if it's a competitive keyword. After which you'll need to create a new site and start over.

Hate to say it, but SEO is hard. If the site is worth ranking, keep going and don't stop (assuming the site isn't penalized).

By the way, a site tanking in rankings is sometimes a precursor for that same site hitting the first page. Sometimes.

It's key to select KW's with soft competition, unless you are willing to run the long race in order to rank a site. That's the main reason why I offer Spanish sites based around Spanish KW's; the market isn't as nearly as saturated as the English one, but the payouts are very nice looking too.

English market has become very saturated with 99% of the marketers focusing on it. Although you can always find profitable KW's, it will only get harder. At some point we are going to need to adapt and stop stepping into each other's toes.

This could just be the good ol' Google Dance :) keep building good backlinks and add quality content, and you should see yourself progress.

But yeah, competition is hard in a lot of niches. There are other search engines than Google that you could try to focus on, or even drop SEO-work completely and work with other sources of traffic. Translating your site to one or more other languages might be a tactic too, if your SEO work doesn't pay off in this niche.

But give Google a chance to finish it's crazy dance, and see where your site ends up - you could be lucky :)

Just keep building links. This kind of stuff is normal, especially if your site is only a few months old.

Were these high PR links contextual links, or some sort of blog comments and web profiles.

Dance dance, we're faallinng apaaart.... PS It'll come back stronger, if you truly made quality links.

12 DAYS ago I bought a new domain, 40k monthly searches and moderately hard competition. Just checked my ranks and I'm already #8.
EMD + Content + Onpage + Minor HQ links work wonders.

He was being sarcastic. "Gee thanks" can sometimes mean sarcasm in American lingo.

How do you create more adword accounts? When I try to create more, I need to verify the account with a mobile phone....

Thanking google sarcastcally is not an appropriate response in this case. Google actually forbids this kind of "hard work", in case you didn't know.
