I've got an email from person who asked to place his link and 1 short text at the end of one of my articles on my site which has no pr no nothing and paid me $100+ for it, said for a year.. Is there a trick in it? Could he do something with it? I've placed everything myself and the links is some college in chicago, I'm just not sure why would anyone do that? Any thoughts? Could there be something behind it? Share your thoughts please.

Maybe he found you ranke on google and thinks he'll get some traffic from the link.

There are many people who look at "link exchance/purchase" as a way to benefit in traffic and not for SEO.

Just be happy with your luck, don't question it. You've seen that it's a legit website not some sort of tentacle midget anal porn!

Maybe that person just feels that your site offers a lot of value and they'd like to piggyback off of it. People buy links for various reasons, so I really can't say anything one way or the other. But, if it concerns you that much, you could just casually ask the buyer what made them choose that particular article to place a link. Who knows what they'll tell you. And if you get a favorable response, you might be able to work up another deal for another article (possibly on a different site).

Did you actually get paid? Money in your hand? How did you receive payment if so?

Is it a legit offline college/business? Sometimes SEO guys promise their clients links of certain kinds of sites and charge $50 per month or some stupid crap to the client.

I have this happen a lot with one of my sites. The said site is a dominate figure in it's niche and is 4+ years old. Only a pr2 as I have never really built links to it. Just take the money, keep his contact info and in 1 year explain how your site has improved and ask if he wants to renew for more $.

I will give an example of some of the reasons people do this:

I was offered a job for $500/month, and it was for link building. Most of the links were Social Bookmarking (Outsource for $5.00), Blog Comments (Outsource for $5.00), Web 2.0s (Outsource for $5.00) and the final few links each month to be added had to be "permanent" d0follow links on a PR1+ page in their niche (very specific niche, not broad) with less than 10 other outbound links on each page. So I could outsource most of the work each month for less than $20.00, but the only difficult thing was to get these links from industry related pages. Even if I have to spend $100 X 3 links, I still come out ahead $150+ each month for doing very little work.

A single person could easily manage 20-30 of those campaigns each month.

I've gotten a lot of these emails from the same company. They are an SEO company with apparently a large budget for links, but they asked to be put on my money sites and I didn't want to do that.

I have an account on Elance, and Elance lets people invite you to jobs if they like your profile/history. It takes a while to build up a good profile doing crappy jobs for low pay, but occasionally you can land some big fish.

Hi, this must be a part of a high paying link building campaign for a company that is being run by some agency to get links of all variety. Mind you the agencies are really profiting high through such campaigns and share a small piece with us (but that is good enough). I got one such deal from an agency running campaign for American Express travel reward credit card. He offered me $120 and I said I will do it for $160 and he agreed without any problem. Just made $160 that night.

It happens. It doesn't have to be some scam just because there are so many scams out there. I had a guy contact me and offer $100 for linking to their writing service (not articles or anything that most people would think of). Funny thing is, he had bought one on my site several years ago, and had asked me to contact him at the end of the year to renew and I forgot. He managed to find me again, accidentally, and we both had a chuckle. :)

I have been recently contacted by moredigital.com, and it seems they are interested to buy some text advertising on my site. However, after doing a little googling, they seem to be contacting many other people with the same e-mail template and they have a shady reputation.
I don't know if smolodoys's post has anything to do with moredigital's recent campaign.
Did someone dealt with these guys before?

Yep, they contacted me as well. They are very slow at replying to emails, but once everything was sorted out they paid me promptly a few days after I put the text link on my site.

I decided to give it a go, after all I thought I have nothing to lose...after a few days of messaging back and forth I finally got my payment. Not bad, for such little work done.
