Know this don't belong here but it's so weird I have to post it. So I bought this laptop on eBay - it's a Sony Vaio. It all worked fine, I replaced some keys, new battery etc. Then I sat it on top of another Sony, just to keep it out the way, and it won't turn on - yup in this particular position it won't turn on. If I move it forward one inch, it turns on, move it back 1 inch it won't turn on. I have took the whole laptop apart and cannot figure out why it does what it does. It gets even more strange - I have another identical laptop, so I striped that and swapped the boards over. Now, it's doing it with both laptops! Sit one on top of the other, they won't turn on, move them 1 inch forward and they turn on. The only thing I can think is that something on the board is shorting?
That is strange, I am a PC tech and I have never heard of such a problem. Maybe your laptops are possessed. Go to your local church and have an exorcism performed on them. lol Seriously though, that is strange. Maybe you should contact Sony and inquire about the problem.
I am pc tech also and yup it's very strange. Also I didn't mention but it cuts the video as well - once it's actually turned on, if I move it back to where it was the screen goes off - check with VGA and display is still there. Also had screen out so I know for certain it's not screen or leads. Its so annoying. All I can think is either it is something earthing - and thus caused by me taking them apart. Or it was a fault with that model - as the two sonys are identical. Or as you say, they're possessed
Check the battery "door" - stick something under it and see if it fixes the problem. I have a toshiba and it's like that - I guess taken apart too many times
I feel your frustration. I'll take a software problem over a hardware problem any day. I don't care how experienced you are, hardware problems will piss you off everytime.
You mean something in the laptop I'm sitting it on interfering with the laptop I'm trying to turn on? That would actually explain things, but means I wasted 3 hours taking two laptops to pieces!! Always an over analyser.
Place a sheet of tinfoil between the 2 computers, then try the same with a sheet of paper and report back. I would be interested in the results.
Yeah one laptop ontop of another laptop won't work if you're trying to use it,theres a few different things that could go wrong depending on models
Ok I have put this down to emi it makes the most sense. Just means I wasted time swapping motherboards
Don't put them on each other. Problem solved. Why wasting hours thinking about stuff like that when the solution is so easy?
Of course your right, but It was bugging me!! That's what I done in the end though, sold them both separately and neither has come back so
