Got an Indian guy building links for me, certain keyword is now ranking higher in Indian Google. Links aren't from Indian sites however. Thoughts?

Sorry bud, I just don't see any connection.. Unless the websites he's posting on are logging his ip address or country.

Hmmm. yeah when you stop and think about it, say your guy posts on a few hundred blogs and keeps entering India as his country. Google then crawls those blogs and notices that most links pointing to your website is created by someone from that country.. I think it's only logical that G search algo will think your website is pretty popular from that place and ranks it higher in Google India.

    I got this from Google:

Makes sense. If they offer personalized search results from location, their search algo should also have some way of finding which sites are popular in those locations.

It could be based on the email address he's using, if it's "xxx[at]email.in" or whatever? Maybe it ties to another account like Gravatar that shows his primary location is in India. I would ask him about his building methods, and if there's any triangulation between his client link projects (ex: if he works off of one list for all of his comment spam). It's not hard for a search engine to find commonalities based on link structure, so it could be other projects that he did work on that are creating strange relationships with your links.

Comment links are handled differently than in-post links by search engines, so it is likely that outside factors influence more than you think.

Could also be IP tracking on G's part.

Well it is based on probability of the link being clicked I think? So it must be some way tracking his movements and conveying this. This might a good thing to test an auto link proxy clicker.
