WEIRD DISCOVERY WHILE DOING BACKLINK RESEARCH..PLS HELP

these were some of the many websites that 143greetings had backlinks from. strangely enuff, all the above websites looked similar and when i clicked on the images sometimes they redirect to ads being shown.
also none of the above websites have any pages being indexed by google (i used the site: website(dot)com method). what i want to know is what are the purpose of those websites and was 143greetings using it to get this massive traffic? and also wanted to ask how do this type of greetings website get so much traffic?(i know they get alot of google images) can anyone who knnows a thing or two clarify my doubts? thanks
