Hello all,

I am currently looking for many VA's for our company and am encountering the same problems as probably most.

Freelancer platforms like Upwork, Fiverr, freelancer are just 90% crappy as people just track as many hours as possible to cash in without actually performing.

Platforms like onlinejobs dot ph are not great either, as the quality of most VA's / microworkers here is really very poor. People do something, but not what you write in your CV.

So the question is. What sites and platforms can you recommend for technical VA's or microworkers? They should be able to do classic tasks like data entry, setting up systems, setting up tools, adapting systems and tools, communication in a team, technical understanding as well as structural, success-oriented work.

Consequently, we are also prepared to pay more than the average VA / microworker earns.

Preferred countries: philippines, ukraine, poland, chechia, romania, slovakia

No India and nothing from the Arab region. We have had bad experiences here.

I find a majority of freelancers are like this. No matter what platform, 90% are either lazy, lie on their CV, or take multiple jobs giving low effort/quality on each.

I've had the most success with onlinejobs.ph, but haven't used them in some years, so maybe the quality dropped.

In my experience you have to really dig through the resumes to find the 10%. It's a time consuming process, but it's worth it in the end if you want consistent quality work long term.

I usually go through each resume, chat on Skype asking specific questions, and if I like them I setup a video call. Then after I offer paid training and go through it during another live video call and see how they pick up on certain tasks. Watch how they do it, and time how long they take to pick up on new tasks, and if they can figure out thing on their own. From there you can get a sense their personality and see if they're a right fit. This usually takes 2 - 3 days, sometimes a week to find someone I like.

On top of that, I offer competitive pay. If you're paying under or even at average, they're gonna start slacking off knowing there's another job they can get later if you fire them. And on top of that, they might take multiple jobs on the side later. I offer up to double sometimes and/or offer bonuses so they want to keep their job, and enough pay so they don't feel like they have to take on side gigs.

You should definitely stay on top of them every single day. Even with all this in place, they will slack off at some point. Have milestones they should reach, and use software/excel to keep track. Reward them when they're consistent and reprimand/fire them when their quality drops.

Hire fast, fire faster.

You named possibly every site under the sun and had a bad experience with workers there.

May be you need to change the approach of working with them?

Because, with the same approach you will find new workers from BHW too, but you will again have a bad experience here too.

May be you can rethink the way you work with remote VA's. The way you assign tasks to them, the way you set the deadline, the way you explain the task to them and the way you expect outcome from them.

May be? yeah...?

This is just a suggestion (I work with many remote assistants who perform well for me)

I have the same bad experiences from same countries.
I had good experience with Ukraine, but of course it was higher price.

Long term VAs are ok in any countries, but quick tasks ones are usually not very good at retaining clients.

All on Upwork.

Usually you get what you pay for. And paying low attracts lazy and no-effort people (you need to explain every single detail).

You really speak from my heart! At first I didn't want to express it so blatantly for fear of a wave rolling over me, but that's exactly how it is!

90% of the people standing for election are simply rubbish! Lazy, unstructured, no desire, no ambition etc....

You really have to find the top 5-10% to get usable employees. Absolutely right!!!

If you knew our system, you would know that it is due to the quality of the freelancers ;)

We have already changed and adapted the system several times, but the quality of the freelancers and candidates is the problem.

Try speaking to BPOs. They source the right candidates with the right background for you and they continue to perform well you can absorb them to your company as a contractor.

Don't get me wrong. You are bad at hiring... You are not clear about your goals. I've enough experience that i can find good people from seoclerks as well (if available). Don't blame platforms, countries etc.

I had bad exp with some Americans but good exp with Nigerians. That doesn't mean all Americans are bad or all Nigerians are good.

For example, I need a link from Forbes. It doesn't matter where the freelancer is from and from which platform. I can even hire a guy from Congo and from blabla platform if he can deliver me a juicy follow link.

Now, the next part is experience. Hiring is a process. You'll never find right guy in first attempt or even 100th. Who knows you'll get at 101st attempt. I've enough VAa working with me, still I post hiring jobs every month.

Good people are RARE and you can't hire them with an industry-average salary.

So,

1. Have a clear goal
2. Keep hiring
3. Be ready to hire those RARE VAs asap at a higher budget or normal budget.

It's so normal when hiring, it's a long and tiring process, and you should know that what works for you won't work for someone else's, but one thing I learned from my experience & you may want to look at it is : Don't hire for Hourly rate, don't punish peoples for being efficient, you must understand the job very well so you create milestones, and keep track of them, this would help you cut off expenses early if you see that someone doesn't fit the job.

good luck.

I was looking for that too :)
If you found something tell mate
