I dont know what this feature is called, I think bootstrap?
it's when websites dont load immediately, you have to scroll down and the rest of the page loads.

I find them annoying and never use a theme that has this feature.

what do you guys think? are they annoying? are they good or bad for seo? can the search engines see the entire page even though some of it hasn't loaded?

It is called Lazy Loading, or ajax loading. Google can detect ajax content. Read their documentation on that. Alternatively, you could load the content immidiately if there's no javascript support in the browser.

I have a plugin of a few of my Wordpress websites called BJ Lazy Load that does just that. I use them on my sites that have multiple large images on each page to help speed up the website a bit (this is for both for my visitors and SEO purposes).

If you notice that your image gallery pages are loading slowly, then lazy loading could certainly help. I had a Photoshop gallery at one point on one of my websites that would load slowly and as soon as I installed lazy load (as well as an image compressor) the pages loaded much quicker.

Although, if you have visitors who have a similar opinion about lazy loading as nonai and you don't notice an increase in performance, it's probably best not to use it.

Thanks to your comment, I learned a new thing today which I can use in future. I will use it on my site to reduce page loading time, because a lot of pages on my site have large images. :)
