I have a website in a niche, lets say its hockey.

I am primed to be able to rank quite quickly for 'hockey t shirts' in google. And my products can be amazon merch t shirts with hockey slogans on them.

    Plan A:

Create a broad category page called "Hockey T Shirts" on my website, with 200 words of content, and then images/titles of each of the 10 hockey t shirts i am currently selling on my Amazon merch page. Each of the images if clicked will go to that respective PDP in amazon.

    Plan B:
Do the same category page as above, but instead of linking to amazon merch pdps, i will create my own pdp's. So, say someone goes to google and types in 'hockey t shirt', they then click on my category page. Once in that page, they see a t shirt image with slogan ''eat sleep breathe hockey". They click on that t shirt, and it goes to my own website's custom pdp, which has that t shirt, and 200 words of content around 'eat sleep breathe hockey t shirt'. Then on that page i have a buy button, which if you click, goes to my amazon merch page.

    What's a better strategy?

Plan A is much easier. But plan B lets me rank for more long tail very niche keywords. But plan B is also a longer user journey and i might have some dropoffs.

Open to any suggestions/thoughts here, TIA

Why not just optimize your Amazon pages and build links to them? Amazon ranks so much easier.

i suppose a fear of mine is if my shirt's slogans get copied by other amazon sellers
and if someone googles the slogan, i can at the very least rank my own site to capture that traffic, and be looked at as an authority in the niche
instead of it being a competition b/w my amazon pdp and a buncha other amazon pdps
