Hi. My website's homepage used to be on the 1st page of google for many years.
About 6 months ago after some google changes it got out of google completely. Other pages still show ok, but not as good as it used to be.

What is the best way and steps to get my homepage back to google. I have tried removing some links, but so far it's not working.
Any companies that can help me to get back on google?

Check whether there is any messages in google webmaster tools. Also, submit all bad links in disavow tool.

Also, whether your homepage is still indexed in google put "site:yoursite.com" in search box and check it to find about any penalty.

What is the penalty? Is your homepage still indexed? I would start over unless the site is super valuable and established. Just let the penalized site sit for now and concentrate your effort on a new site. Recovering from penalty is not an easy endeavor to undertake.

First of all i would suggest you to check if you have manual penalty in Google webmaster tools. The second step is to check when page disappeared from index and check if there was any Google Algorithm update that time. After that you will be able to say what probably the reason. Either it was links factor or low quality content.
