Ok story: have a website I built about 6 months ago. Using an aged domain name it was doing well until the last Penguin update last month. All rankings fell. Using both Click Bank and direct affiliates. have maybe 20-30 pages and do have some sales that are just shy of the threshold to pay out. All my keywords which were 10 main + some LSI that I tracked have all fell past not in the top 100.

I really dont want to start from scratch because I REALLY hate to build sites. My questions is this. If I keep the site it is BUT revamp and turn a 180 on the keywords I choose now (and this will have to be fixed for on page SEO as well with any new keywords) is it worth it. When I say new keywords I mean keywords that I have not choose to rank for but still on the same site.

So keep the site, and shoot for new keywords OR say Fuck it and give up all I did for a new type of site?

    Thank You

I'm not an SEO expert but from what I've read its better to just ditch the old and start a whole new site when they reach a certain point in big G. You may have been penalized for poor back links or spammy content etc and it can take a long time to recover from those.

Well yea I know what my link background was :) I actually did recover one site from just changing the keywords but it was not an affiliate site. Just cant build websites and do other shit anymore. Got to concentrate on other things then design.

A hit by penguin is extremely hard to recover from.

I don't know how accurate this is (my most extensive google penalty experience lies in panda) but penguin hits direct offending pages and keywords, unlike panda which just hits your whole site with a general penalty. So if you choose to target new keywords, then perhaps - but if they are related, I suspect your penalty will effect those as well.

WHAT sort of links were you building? Do you think you got slammed because of a few blog/paid links that got caught? Or were you spamming the internet up? How good was your keyword distribution? Basically, the question is - how many offending links do you need to remove. If its spam I suspect building more quality links from high PR sources over time might bring you out if you mix up your keyword distribution, but if your paid links got hit then you need to start removing them.

In general while you may hate building new sites, the chances are that is your best bet. Buy a high pr domain, outsource the work with the money you earned (you saved it, right?) and start over.

I did some high PR links but not from blog networks. Just your basic web 2.0 ad shit like that. i did not do over anchor and mixed it up well. But even my LSI keywords dived as well. So like you said even if I do keywords like my main or LSI it may not work. I would place the site on Flippa but with the rankings down I am not sure if it would even be worth it. Domain alone I would want at least mid $$$ so I may just hold tight, keep it up and see what happens on its own.
