Yesterday my website ranking no.1 for its branded keyword dropped to no.2 (inner page not homepage) and was replaced in the no.1 position by a URL that has cloned/copied my homepage but actually redirects to another website (webcam site). So the no.1 site is actually a 301 redirect. Any idea how or why Google would rank a 301 clone of my website as no.1 and how to fix it? My site is custom built using PHP.

Also it seems who ever did this created alot of copies as my site keeps getting replaced by a different 301 URL every few hours.

I see this kind of threads popping up more and more here on BHW. Looks like a new blackhat-technique that beats the google-algo... pretty badass :)
Since I'm not into SEO I'm not of much help, but you may search for the other threads and see if someone came up with a solution.

Thanks, thought about that but the URL cloning me keeps changing, assume cause a redirect can't stay up long. I have already done some ressearch and found this which i think will fix the issue: http://www.seoegghead.com/blog/seo/how-to-guide-prevent-google-proxy-hacking-p210.html

I've been working with 301 redirects since 4+ years. I can take a look at the clone, PM if you'd like me to check it out. Just might be able to help.

I'd probably add scripts to .htaccess to prevent anybody from cloning any website. Report that domain to Google and hopefully, they will reconcile and crawl/deindex all of those cloned websites in your favor.

Calm down everyone , there is not reason to mess around with each-other . At the beginning seems thought you moved to another platform/host so the title is misleading somehow , anyway

@OP, the website that just took #1 , can you check their backlink profile on ahrefs ? What is their main anchor text and when did they create that site ?

That post is almost a decade old, are you sure that's still relevant man?

If I understand the problem correctly it might be worth doing a scan of your code base for redirects both server side and client side and seeing if he's hacked you and dropped in a Google bot redirect

well i have just seen a weird behavior in serp, someone copied my meta title and descriptions and his and my site are dancing like hell, i was actually ranking in top 3 and now after he copied my meta his website showsup at my ranking. I know how it sounds so couple of days ago i decided to change my meta tags and tried fetch as google sent some social signal but google is not picking the new meta. Fuckin weird shit

If you've figured an answer to how this happened please share it. I've had a site hacked, not 301'd just straight hacked, and I expect that this type of thing will be happening more often.

probably, the hacker site acts like its your website in the eye of google (cloaking) some advance cloaking sh!t. Google reads the website as yours, when real visitors came in it automatically redirects...

that's how i read this situation of yours.

Could you mention a little more about the domains that are replacing yours if possible: Are they aged? re-purposed expired domains? It may be a dead end due to the fact that anyone who has the technical know-how to do this will no doubt be blocking bots but...what sort of backlinks do these sites have? Are the domains related to your niche in any way?

You asked all the things I was going to write after reading all the previous posts :) So same observation from my side + another one: Do you see any pattern between the domains which are getting the 301?

I can guarantee is not a 301 redirect it is a 302 redirect if it was a 301 the site will be gone from serp after a while. This is a new tehnique which works with non english websites. I can't say no more because the method is still fresh, I will make a guide after I milk it.
