    Dear SEO Gurus,

imagine this situation. Your domain will be closed in 1-2 months. You have prepared already new domain brandname.net ( old one was brandname.com ). Would you 301 the website to new one immediately to help google ranks or it doesn't matter and one month won't help the new website with 301 redirect.

Any thoughts would be highly appreciated :)

    Peace.

Won't do any harm in doing a 301. See what happens and learn from it.

Why re you moving from .com to .net?
Is your .com domain been hit by a penalty, if so, I don't think its smart to do redirects.

Domain is going to be suspended by registry Wizard04, that's the main reason. I have about 1 month time before they do so ( from experience ) so I was thinking that I will ask you guys who are skilled in SEO field about the advice what do to with 1 month before they close it.

    Thanks guys for your replies!

Why are you moving from .com to .net?
But if you have to move then you need to set up .net domain and then 301-redirect your old domain to it, this way search engines and visitors will know that you moved and you will have no interruption in the service.

a 301 redirect will pass all the link juice to your new url but a problem will occur. You will need to have the same content on both domains.

hi guys. The domain is going to be suspended - deleted by registrar. I was thinking if I renew the domain and I will do 301 of the old domain to the new domain, backlinks will be legit till the old one expires ? I'm not sure if I can renew it even if it's under disput so I'm going to check now.

    I still don't understand.
How can your domain be suspended, and you can still renew it?
This "Wizard04" thing u mentioned earlier is not Google.
Renew your domain with different domain provider.

About your question, 301 will pass about 90% of the link juice.
Pretty much regardless of the content on the new domain.
I have done some tests about 301 redirect.
However, having similar content will help that stay longer on this SERP position.

Please enlighten me about the "suspense" thing, I am little bit confused.

    Hello.

I've got one month before my domain will be suspended by registrar because I broken the rules. So I was thinking about to take advantage of this month and do 301 redirect to new domain so I help the new website to grow in google :) How does it sound to you?

    Hello.

It will be the same website, just under new .tld . Do you know what will happen to the new website after old domain will be suspended so all backlinks with help of 301 redirect will disappear ? :) I mean if I get some google ranks with help of the 301 redirect, will I loose them for sure or even such a small period of time will help the new website to rank in google? :)

    Thank you.

Omg I swear he said it otherwise rofl. I was about to say that no one is Google but it turned out worse. That was ridiculous.

My question was, Paul, why don't u transfer ur domain to a new hosting company?
if u are doing tricky staff than I suggest offshore hosting like AltusHost or KnownSrv.
Otherwise yeah, 301 will finish the job if no other solution is available.

So basically OP's question is whether he can leverage the existing authority of the current domain if he 301's it to a new domain and the 301'd domain expires in a month or two. And the answer to your question is, Yes, if you redirect it now and Google indexes your new domain and replaces it with the SERPs of the old one, your rankings will still stay for "a while" even if your registrar suspends your old domain and there is no 301 juice passing in. I might upgrade your new domain to the https as well in order to get that extra boost.

its little confusing, if your registrar is suspending your domain then you can register it with other registrar and continue with your existing domain.
