Im starting a forum and if all goes to plan hopefully have between 10,000-40,000 members within 6 months..Anyway I want to start with half decent hosting and was looking at hosting in the country that the forum is for...One of the hosting company I checked has this wrote:

Am I reading it right that only 150 max could connect at the same time??
Has anyone any idea about cloud hosting that scales? Also need easy install for phpbb or maybe smf....For that amount of users how much am I likely to pay per month for reliable hosting?

    Thanks for any help/replies

no max 150 can load the pages in the same time. But usually a page loads in a few seconds and the user start to read. But a browser can make more that 1 connection in the same time for a faster loading.

IMHO 150 is good enough and you shouldn't have issues

My advice is to start with the company that have shared, VPS and upgrade to dedicated server in short time. Any company offering this three services will do the job. And fro my experience almost all of them are interested in clients that grow and help them growing without problems. So shared 5-10$ monthly, VPS 10-25$ monthly and dedicated 50-250$ monthly. If you have enough income hosting expenses would be a joke for you.

I would also advice you to start up with a VPS atleast and not with a shared hosting!

For forum sites VPS is really the best way to start with. With shared it can be hard to move to VPS/Dedicated if you notice, in the last minute, that you've outgrown your plan.

just start with a shared ones, the forum might be a bad idea and it will never grow. usually people are failing with their ideas. For a VPS you need Cpanel and it will cost aprox 15$/month

As a forum owner for 2+ years, I've started from 0 and grown to 1M+ posts. I've started with shared hosting, I think there's no need to waste your money with VPS in the beginning, before your forum starts getting some traffic then you can move. But until then, you should have no problem on shared hosting. There won't be many queries done, as your website will be still new and you won't be getting much traffic. As the time passes, your website will grow and you'll have to get better hosting.

As for VPS, when I purchased mine, I saved a lot of money, because I didn't get cPanel or anything like that, you can simply use Kloxo or Webmin which is FREE and SSH is quite simple to use as well and you don't need to pay for that as well.

I'm hosting with KnownSRV since the beginning, my forum has quite a lot of queries and it's very fast, great uptime and very cheap prices.. been with them all the time! If you have any questions, let me know.
