In 2012/2013 Tiered link building was very much alive.

Despite a few recent ranking drops on just 1 page on 1 of my sites, I still believe a quality web2.0 tiered link building campaign works.

All through last year when i ever I'd log onto BHW id see journeys or how to threads about web 2.0 link building. I've not seen any of these threads in the probably around 6 weeks. Im just wondering if people have moved onto using different tactics, if so what, and why?

When I say a quality web 2.0 tiered link building campaign I mean:
Unique or very (manually) highly spun articles for your tier 1 articles. A mixture of 500+ and 800+ word articles.
Articles should contain a variety of images and videos.
Web 2.0 profiles should be made to look 'real' (And not just contain 1 intro post and 1 article containing link to your site)
A mixture of external links to relevant authoritative sites
    Varied Anchor text between;
small amount of EMK anchor text
    Partial match anchor text
    LSI anchor text
    Brand anchor text
    URL anchor text
    Generic anchor text

I tend to use web 2.0 as a starting point to get some links built to my new sites, then look at blog commenting, creating links on social channels, reaching out to influencers or other blog / site owners in the niche for guest posts or to share my content with them and forum posting. These are my 'base' tactics I use to get started.

Albeit i've not created a new site since October, however my latest site is performing very well currently, and has been for around 8-10 weeks.

Just looking to hear your thoughts on web 2.0 tiered link building now, if you still use it, and if you don't what other tactics you're using.

It's still very much alive. Why, here's the reason:

    1) Web 2.0 sites are very large in number and Google can't devalue the OBLs you have on their web 2.0 pages.

    2) Web 2.0 are built on an almost infinte number of platforms. This means, Squidoo is one complete stand alone website has its own cms or whatever it is.

Of course it's alive, but it only works if you build quality web 2.0 and keep posting from time to time.

Quality is the key although you're probably better off building your own PBN if you have the budget because Web 2.0s can always get taken down and you have no power to stop it.

Web 2.0s are very much alive. But stupid 1 post web 2.0s pages are out now. Unique articles, multiple posts and fully complete profile/bios web 2.0s are still in the game. Reason why people don't use it much nowadays is because of high price for quality web 2.0s

    Hi,

The discussion is good, and I believe tiered link building still is effective as I have seen many case studies. I am testing the same on one of my affiliate site, and there is positive move on the ranking. However, I do have small question which I am not able to resolve.

My question is, when we build tiered link using Web 2.0 do we need to change the web 2.0 sites every time we build. I mean say I have built about 10 web 2.0 sites like "wordpress, blogger, weebly, livejournal, tumblr and other 5, I built first set of 10 articles and built the link. After say about 15 days of gap, I would create another 10 articles and submit to the same "wordpress, blogger, weebly, livejournal and others previously I did. Does it make sense or we need to create new web 2.0 sites every time?

I am not sure anyway I am testing, however your opinions and knowledge sharing here would be appreciated.

Web 2.0 still works. It's best to put together a list of sites that don't ban your blog after a while (I've always had this problem with wordpress.com, for example). These are links surrounded by content that Google expects to see, it's not like a bunch of needless comments on a page that's been spammed to death.

Web 2.0 is still effective for low, medium competitive keywords.

Yes tiered web 2.0 linking is still alive as long as you do as you say with high quality unique content with images/videos inserted and not on low authority rubbish domains. Penguin has always been about low quality spun content using rich keywords on low authority domains, invest in quality and you'll have rankings that last years not months...

Stop spreading the WF myth that you need high quality content for SEO or show me the data that it does, you need good quality content for the mods on these web 2.0 sites so they don't delete your sites, but you can have your content written by Steven King and still go nowhere in the rankings, so stop it already....

If done right it's more than just alive. Uber Web 2.0 will rank your ass, but it takes time and effort to manage them!

It's not as it used to be. If you want to fire up some software (UD per se) and spam hundrets of one pagers it's probably not going to work.

IMO it's best to build yourself some quality PBN's. But hey, this is just my personal preference, I'm sure there are some people here that are killing it with Web2.0's

It is very much alive. The game is a little different now and needs to be kept up with. Having dead links isn't helpful.
