When setting up your properties, does each "property" need to come from a different web service (i.e. one needs to come from blogger.com, another from squidoo...) or could half of them be blogger.com blogs and the other half squidoo?

Just trying to figure out how much I need to diversify.

    Thanks,

    Lumien

If they're all pointing to the same site, it's better to diversify. 50 links coming from a single Web 2.0 property will be nowhere near as effective as links from different properties.

I only hit one Web 2.0 site (1 site on hubpages, 1 site on livejournal, 1 site on Squidoo,...) for each keyword I am targeting. I don't believe you get as much link juice if you have 50 links coming from the same IP address.

I did come across one unusual case. This guy's profile ranks #3 in G for his profile name (it is a pretty comptetive search term). The only links he has are coming from the site his profile is on, but he has 3000 followers and each follower has his profile link on their profile page. So I guess if you get enough links of any type, you can rank well.

In general, it is recommended that you get links from a diversity of IP addresses. Since each Web 2.0 property you build on any one site (Squidoo, Blogger, etc.) is coming from the same "parent" site, it will have the same IP address and therefore carry less link juice.

In simple terms, everything else being equal (which it hardly ever is), 50 links from 50 different sites are better than 50 links from one site.

Theres a list of them if you do a quick search for web 2 properties on the board, but in true blue peter tradition, here's one I prepared earlier.
