I know that it's enough to have at most 2 links to the money site, but to reduce the risk of getting the banhammer (using free blog platforms) I've read that it's important to link to other authority sites too.

My question is, how many links can I put to other sites without it significantly taking away link juice to the money site?
Currently I'm doing 1-2 moneysite links + 4-5 other links.

If you put only 1-2 money site links then 1 link to authority site is enough.

Whether you link to money site or not, you will be hammered once you break the rules.

Max of 2 links is actually the best but if you think getting links from a PR3+ web 2.0 sites is authority then you have to have a rethink.
Your link actually lands on PR0 sites no better than linking to PR0 web 2.0s.
