Has anyone watched this yet, what did they think?
No I haven't, but its grade and reviews on IMDB says enough:
Pretty much mixed reviews. Some people hated it, some people liked it.
Juliane Assange himself misslikes the movie as far as I am aware of.
Is it on netflix?
Good topic. I downloaded it immediately. I have it stored on Mega for download. I'd post the link here right now, but do not know if that's against the rules.
Well-made documentary. Has a lot of substance. 1st person interviews with some of the primary people involved, particularly those surrounding Bradley Manning. Good videography, good cinematography, good flow, everything. Real top-notch production.
Except for the fact that the only thing that's missing from it is a big-ass Presidential Seal with the words "Made on Contract for the US Government, Department of Cyber Warfare division, Psychological Operations Unit." Every substantive point that could be made against Asange, Wikileaks and Bradley Manning is made in this documentary. It's not the "untold story", it's the US government's position made into a real-life documentary. It's what's NOT in the documentary that is most significant, such as the fact that US troops were "over there" killing unarmed non-combatants, women and children, creating more hatred and animosity towards the US, and no one was prosecuting or preventing these atrocities from taking place. Instead, they hid the information and went about with "business as usual".
The documentary studiously ignores that fact that there is a higher purpose behind the release of this secret information, and instead tries to associate the current global conflict into the same obsolete and blatantly dishonest value system left in place from World War II. "They" are the bad guys, and must be destroyed. "We" are the good guys, and any evidence of our failures and mistakes will be used as propaganda against us and must be kept Top Secret, and anyone that betrays that trust is a traitor that should be executed for treason in a time of war.
Only there really is no "they", no "us" and only certain releasers of secret information are traitors deserving of execution. Some releasers of top secret information work directly with the President himself. Look up "Valerie Plame".
This "war" is nothing like the previous wars. There's no "enemy", no country, no rules of engagement, no Geneva Convention, no nothing. Some bureaucrat behind a desk arbitrarily decides that someone on the planet is an "enemy combatant" and shortly thereafter a predator drone drops a hellfire missile on their house, killing the "enemy combatant", his wife, their children and their neighbors next door.
They've already killed one american citizen overseas who was not a terrorist, and no government employee went to prison. It is only a matter of time before those predator drones start dropping hellfire missiles on innocent US civilians here at the "Homeland", which is a fake, made for motion-picture term for the US that NEVER existed prior to the government takeover on 9/11. To quote the crewmember on the Apache helicopter that killed several civilians, a Reuters News crew and some children "Don't take your children to a war."
Anyways, that's what I think of the documentary, and the government that's behind it's production.
Nigel can you send me the direct download link please?
I'll send the link to anyone that wants it (via PM), until I have reason to believe it's OK to post in the thread.
Yea I downloaded the torrent and watched it one evening and fell asleep half way thru it. Its not the kind of movie you wanna watch more than ones. It is basically about Wiki Leaks, Juliane Massage and all the people they screwed and who screwed them, Blah blah blah......
If you want to see a really good action movie then checkout "Olympus has Fallen", i watch it last night and it is freaking awesome
I watched it on sunday. Links are already up on solar.so.
I'm well up to speed on the facts of what happened so knew the story well. Assange doesnt come out of it looking good but only hardcore Assange fans still believe he is some heroic idealist. The films worth a watch, it has bias but its not the hatchet job that some are claiming.
I am curious to see whats in it. Gonna download it today. Will post review here
I haven't seen it yet! Gonna watch this tonight!
Thanks for the link Nigel
