I am wondering if there is a way to easily check what keywords that a given page ranks for.

In other words, I want to enter an exact url, have the software automatically extract keyword ideas from the page, then check each keyword in google to see where/if it ranks for that keyword.

Is this possible with free tools, or tools that are available in the downloads sections?

    Thanks all

You can try SEMRush. But it shows you all ranking keywords of a site. Also you need a pro account to see more keywords.

While this method may not be the most automated, I generally find that despite meta tags being pretty much useless they do give a nice snapshot of keyword terms the site is trying to rank for.

I would copy and paste those tags from a competitors site into whatever ranking program you prefer then rank away.

You could also take a look at the anchor text a competitor is using for backlinks in a site like opensiteexplorer and then just copy and paste those all into a rank tracker.

    With scrapbox (paid)

    Do a harvest for:

    site:url.com

and then append each of those urls found with link:url.com

and then harvest for those and now you have all the pages that link to the entire domain.

Next you run that through the link checker and you should get the anchor text used in each link and the page it links to. You can then export this to excel and you will have a list of all the keywords/pages targetted for a given url and thus at least some indication of what terms it is ranking for.

    2: Traffic Travis (Free)

Just look at the source and then paste the keywords in the title and meta into it and run it as a project to show the rankings for those terms.

Umm, I am trying to reply to some of you but I keep triggering some automated thing that seems to be saying I am triggering a spam filter.
