Why would this happen? It was on page 3 of Google and now gone. Any experts want to PM me who thinks they can give me some guidance on why this happened?

It is because Google does not like your website. Google thinks all the websites above it are better.

OP there could be a lot of reasons for this. What type of backlinks have you been building?

Happens to my sites a lot when building big boy links. I would diversify your keywords to your backlinks. So if you have 10 mains keywords I would do about 50-100 links, web 2's work, to 20 other keywords and make sure they index then crawl the $ site and you "should" come back instantly or in 24-48 hrs. Unless you got a manual penalty in WMT. If you didnt then it is an algo problem and give that a try.

My buddy owns a site for copycontest and was helping him build some links. We had ranked the keyword catchy slogans and was on page 7, 6 , 5 then made it to 3. All of a sudden it is gone. I have a vested interest in this site.

You're not helping us. What type of links did you make?Anchor term ratios?Did you change the content? Was the content spun?Did you buy any links?

If you want help you need to provide more details.

Are you sure you know what you're doing when you built those links? G is getting very good at determining unnatural links. Plus you're not telling us exactly what you did so don't expect much help.

I did not place them. We paid someone to place them. Is there a good backlink service that I can check them out to analyze them? I dont know the ratio and would love to find that out

OK, please, PM me the site and the keyword. In case I found the reason fast will update you. In case it needs deeper analytics, than will redirect you to the freelancer section on the forum, where some expert will get the job.

Likely you were part of the smaller keywords that Google is testing their new Penguin update on. I've had many friends in my SEO mastermind have similar things happen to them, all at different times over the past couple of weeks.

    I'd look at your backlinks.

Looks like google didn't like your site. You must have done something to trigger the red flag. Try checking on GWT to see if a manual penalty was given.

it's the google dance! new sites would jump up in ranking when initially ranked by google due to new content, let's say it might shoot to page 2-3 in the first few days, then gradually drop to page 5-6, and it might even disappear if no link building is done, etc...
