Wanting to rank 2 domains for one site.

How would I accomplish effectively ranking two similar domains to the same site. I have two key phrases that are similar and I don't want two separate sites, nor do I want to have 2 sites exactly the same. I would prefer the one with the lower searches forwards to the other, but as I said I am looking to rank both.

Really anything you do in terms of onsite would help both domains rank if they are both pointing at the same IP address. You could also build backlinks to the different domains to get them to rank on their own. You might run into some duplicate content issues though if you have the same content on two different domains.

What fi I used a 301 redirect and attempted to rank both domains? or would google not rank them seperately?
