There is a goarticles page that ranks #1 for a keyword that I am targeting.

If you were determined to take that spot which would you use:

Another goarticles page? Ezine articles page? an internal page on your own webdomain?

    maybe a Squidoo lens?

This go article page seems funny.

This article is six months old has a total of 23 backlinks and the article PR page itself is a PR 6 !!

Im lost here.... PR6 with 23 crappy backlinks from low PR directories and blog rolls??

    This makes no sense.

    Thanks!

methinks you should stop whining and go get those links for yourself

then you go and get more links than that.

then you write a goarticles article with the same keyword, build backlinks and pray for a double index

then build more backlinks to beat that articles rank

    mebbe, mebbenot

goarticles.com is pr 6. It's extremely unlikely that the article has that pr. More likely its an error in whatever tool you were using.

If you're going to compete with that goarticles article use anything EXCEPT goarticles. Google doesn't like listing the same domain for the same keyphrase too often. It prefers to show it's user a range of options. Ezine articles would be one of the best - then build some links.

I'd be hitting that with an ezine article with backlinks.

So you would use an article page rather than a keyworded subdomain of your own website that you are linking to!

I'd rank the article then link it to my own site and steal two spots eventually I guess. Depends on how much you want to cover in the niche though.

Definitely go with an article on Ezine and build some backlinks. You should be able to take it down with some effort. Link to you ezine article from other web 2.0 properties as well.

Hell, it doesn't even have to be articlesbase or ezine. What's really needed is something on a platform that google likes and therefore has a good PR itself - many sites do that. It could even be a freakin Squidoo lens, seriously. And, from the sounds of it, all you'd really need to do is get more than 25 or so backlinks. Also, the PR6 seems really unlikely - the tool you were using to measure MUST have been instead measuring goarticles itself.
