I have a hostgator shared hosting account. Now as the traffic and number of sites(wordpress) are increasing, I want to go for a VPS.

1)How difficult is to move entire thing to a VPS?
2)Is it too much of headache to manage the VPS, and dozen of sites?
3)What I will gain performance wise?

    1) cpanel to cpanel migration should be easy. You should be able to get hostgator to make a root backup of your files. And then it's as simple as uploading the files, assuming you don't have mondo huge sites, it shouldn't take more than 1-2 hrs.. Many companies will assist you migrating for free or a small fee.

    2) You really want to go with a fully managed VPS running cpanel. Expect to pay $40+ depending on how many processors and memory you need. If you try to go the non-managed route, and I assume you have little to no server admin experience, you will be screwed.

    3) Performance wise, it really depends on the amount of traffic you have, new server specs,ect.. But generally you will notice a lot faster load times.

Thanks for the advise bro. I want to go nonmanaged route, money is not the factor. I want to learn managing servers. I am a programmer. Will it be too difficult to manage the VPS myself?

We offer full management on all of our VPS's at no additional cost

In addition we will 100% migrate everything for you free of charge

    3) You will probably see a dramatic increase in the speed of your server/sites

You will also have the added security benefits and total control of being able to do whatever you want with a VPS

It's easy, and if you don't know how to do something there are always tutorials for it if you search google.

    Hi op.
I went non managed route 1 week ago for the same reasons.
I had no linux skills and my sites load in less than 1s now.

It is very easy and no, you do not need to pay 40 a month to get decent vps. Read a post i made today toi choose a vps.

Send a PM if u need more info & awesome tuto.

    Go unmanaged route.

Buy your WHM licence from Hostdime - VPS external one.
CPanel is a must if your sites use lots of server-side scripts (image-editing and so on). For simple HTML sites on cheap VPS hosts an installation of virtualmin will suffice.

I will purchase a shared hosting from hostwinds next month. For unmanaged VPS, I will use someone else.
