Yeah if you sign up for a Gizmo5 account there is a place for you to put in your google voice name + password. Then you can dial out for like two minutes or something. If you initiate the call from google voice the call is unlimited. You can also connect one side of an ATA (ala sipura) to the internet -> gizmo5, and then the other side to your homes telephone input at the tni box (replace ma bells inbound) you can propagate the phone line through your previous wiring. You can take this a step further and write a program to automate google voice's dialing and integrate it with asterisk to listen for dtmf tones and then place the call seamlessly for unlimited talk time.

You could likely find a cheaper sip provider than magic jack, the question was free. When I was doing voip work we were paying like 50 cents a year per line. When I was trying out bulk did purchases for pva's I got hundreds of lines for free by simply registering for free as a a telco provider. There is actually a huge supply of lines being dumped for dirt cheap (prolly by pva makers, the cheap ones are all used up that i tried), so if you are willing to pay a minimum you could prolly get a line for a year for a couple of dollars. Magic jack can suck my left nut. 20$ is a premium for voip.

p.s. of course i talk the talk and walk the walk, so your mileage may vary, I actually pick up a phone and call people.

Hmmmmm....that blows dead bear. Wonder if that's part of the post-Google-acquisition period.

I noticed that in the Gizmo5 client they have an "Invite a Friend" feature. I wonder if that would be a back door to a new sign up for a fellow BH'er....worth a shot, I suppose. PM me your email address if you want an invite.

Gregstereo has anyone gotten this to work with your idea of a backdoor method?

I found a program called 3cxphone, but I know nothing about phone systems.

I am wondering if there is a way to use this with google talk or something else that will allow me to dial long distance in the usa.

    check out http://nerdvittles.com/
who introduces a software PBX (called Asterisk) and configues
it to run free U.S./Canada PSTN calls using Google Voice with SIPgate or IPkall.

All you need is a bit of hardware.
(can be low powered and suggested retail is $ 200).

I tried previous versions (which were a lot of fun) and the fun has only increased.
