My website is ranking very well. However I feel I can increase conversions a lot by changing the content of my homepage. What should I do?

I don't want to change anything and lose rankings but I would like to change to increase conversions!

Are you planning to rewrite the existing content or put together a completely different content (ex: same niche but different product)

Rewrite existing content but whole makeover. Better copywriting.

Make sure you use the same keywords.

Well if you rankings are very good at the moment than I would not rewrite the entire content to be honest.

It could be possible that your rankings will drop. If I would be you I would only do minor adjustments and maybe add new content?

Google loves new and additional content as far is i know so maybe thats an option for you.

The best thing I can suggest to you is that you have a change in design of the page and also add content to it. The content that you have generated over the years is very important and you therefore need not to dispose it just that way. Be sure that every content that you add up, it confines to the keywords that you have so as to improve the ranking.

Changing the content (especially on your homepage) is a very risky move. Truth is, you just never really know how the wind will blow with SEO. So if you're gonna make this change, then you had better tread lightly and make gradual changes one step at a time and monitor things like a HAWK!

Yes, this may be a long and ongoing tedious process to try to monitor small changes ( or any changes for that matter) in SEO. After all, it's not like monitoring a PPC campaign where you can just throw money at it, split test and see results within days. We're talking SEO here, and unfortunately SEO has far more variables and mystery going on behind the scenes.

So if you've got a good SEO thing going now, you better think long and hard before you tamper with it, because although some changes may prove to be successful - other may stifle the progress of your site for months or years to come - and sometimes even permanently. This may not be what you want to hear, but it's the truth.

Another idea is that perhaps you can make a mirror site e.g. on a completely different domain with the same look and theme, and just put the new content on it and monitor the two sites to see which one is gaining in the ranks better and faster. Or as I've stated previously, make slow gradual changes on your existing site.

At first you will probably lose rankings, however you will get back on track soon if you do a great job at rewriting the content.
