At the recommendation of people in this forum I got a VPS from xsserver.eu. The offer seemed really good - unlimited data, 100 mbps, 90 gig hdd, 1 gb ram for $35 a month.

I logged on and the desktop seemed really nice, it was a bit laggy but it looked nice. The connection was FAST.

However I bought a new license for SB, put it up and running and first found out it was not my name on the license, but some random eastern european guy. WTF. Then my desktop "broke" - at the start I had a really nice full screen look, as if it was my computer and not just a remote controlled server. But now the windows are all messed up and I don't get the full screen effect any more and I have to scroll down and to the side to see anything nowadays which is annoying. Anyone know how to fix this?

But that's not the main problem. Every time I have tried to run scrapebox this damn thing has crashed. Bear in mind my laptop is a modest thing, dual core with 2 gig of ram, and a shitty 5 mbps line. I thought this VPS would be able to rip through URLs in no time and deliver the speeds I could only dream of. Unfortunately this was not the case. Only a few minutes into harvesting this damn thing would crash. The guys at xsserver.eu are not very helpful at all and their site is terrible for those who are new to VPS. Their offer sounded great and if it all worked I would have been extremely happy with it but right now I can only harvest at the speed I was harvesting before so it's basically no change and I'm a hundred bucks out of pocket (extra SB license + first month VPS fee).

Can anyone who has dealt with xsserver.eu and who has experience with scrapebox, namely harvesting, link extracting and checking (not posting really), help me get around their servers which appear to me to be somewhat overcrowded. I guess you get what you pay for.

HELP!! There are only days before Yahoo! shuts down the API and many many core aspects of SB life are going to be snatched away from us. I haven't slept the past two nights and I am no closer to getting any good lists before it goes.

You do realize you can change the number of threads used when scraping/posting?

I just bought a server there for the same purpose but haven't finished configuring it and loading all the software. Will tell you how it goes for me.

As for the Yahoo change, are you talking about the change to Search Explorer? Have you heard if there is going to be any work-around or alternative?

That's what I'm worried about man, I don't think there is gonna be a workaround. I am (sc)raping Yahoo at the moment. No proxies, 100 mbps, I am going for the win.

One good thing about xsserver.eu is their connection speed - it's just their computers suck a bit.

My server is working a lot better now. For the price, I still would recommend xsserver but try to realise you won't get super fast speeds, and running your harvester on any more than 30 connections OR running a keyword list of 20,000 words or longer has a VERY HIGH chance of crashing with xsserver.eu. They promise 1024 MB RAM and even if they do deliver on that it must be the CPU being eaten up. However I then ask how much guaranteed CPU we get and they said around 2.5 ghz. So that should be enough to run a decently heavy duty scrape. Apparently not.

To be honest, I would say this xsserver.eu works with the specifications as follows:

1 ghz CPU, 512MB RAM, 5 mbps connection.

Compare that to 1024 MB RAM, 100 mbps they promise.

Personally, on my VPS it says in the server manager the max network speed is 10 mbps (not 100 mbps as they promise). So basically they are lying.

For $35 I would still stick with xsserver.eu because for me it's worth the price -- the VPS can basically harvest 24/7 for me at modest speeds of 20 connections. Even with that modest speed it still harvest 2x as fast as my home connection. As long as no more problems now, I will stick with it.

I found the solution is to assume that you are dealing with a very slow computer, i.e. put connections low, smaller keyword lists etc., and then it won't crash and you can run it 24/7.

I have to say given the specs they say on the homepage I was expecting a lot better. But I've yet to find better prices for a virtual desktop.

Ram - stop hogging my bandwidth and CPU!! You haven't even paid for the copy of SB! Seriously, I have that issue too, it's registered to some other guy, and I can't seem to register it myself, even though I did pay for it. I just don't think it's good to not pay for a software that is so useful and so cheap. I notified Sweetfunny of this issue, she said it was fixed / the name was wiped but I still can't seem to register it in my name. I guess if I change VPS I will have another license.

VPS' are usually setup with strong security for internet explorer. Remember SB uses IE this so it needs to be 100% up to date ande configured as per recommended settings. This may be the issue, not sure.

Scrapebox uses IE? It seems way too fast to use IE to me, I'm pretty sure it uses API...

Im thinking it could be a problem with the ram on your VPS. 1GB of ram is not that much for some the Scrapebox features. I have a 4gb xenon server running a copy of Scrapebox and when running various stuff in Scrapebox it just eats up the ram.

Sb doesn't use ie. It uses its own internal java based browser. Ie is not multi threaded. For the slow poster, I believe it uses ie in some casses, but otherwise it works completely seperate from ie.

I just signed up as well. From what I can see, I have rented a client area! Can't find any access to servers, VPS or any other useful things. When I figure this out I can sell the guide at DP :D

I have one $35 VPS from them and I used it for more then 20 days then I bought a dedicated from leaseweb because I needed more performance... :) Never had problem with VPS... I have done harvesting with big keyword lists and with 50-100 threads per search engine... I have tried commenting with up to 500 threads... I was running 5-6 instance of SB... Some time I did face problem but not much...
