I'm looking to get a VPS or Dedicated box for my autoblogging needs. I looked at hostgator but their dedicated boxes start at $174 which is a little more than I want to do. Can anyone recommend and good host for this which offers decent support for one of these at about 100 bucks a month?

I have an VPS account at futurehosting and they've been very good, also have one at liquidweb but they are more expensive.

WHT promo, 30% off + free double bandwidth/RAM. Choice of 5 data centers, 3 different control panels and fully managed.

    30GB disk space
    900GB bandwidth
    1024MB RAM RAM
    $54.95 - 30% coupon = $38.47 after coupon

I used GoDaddy VPS in the past, and they are actually quite good :).

And the prices are very cheap too.

If you have a bit of server savvy, look for scalable, relatively inexpensive VPS solutions at Linode and Slicehost.

Liquidweb provide pretty solid support for their vps, though the price is like $59 per month.

You can get a cheaper one at 1and1.com. They are big company, and the setup should be pretty standard and solid. But they don't use cpanel for the control panel.

You might find a pretty good low end dedicated ifyou have the budget for it. serverprono, managemybox usually have pretty good price on dedicated box

Do. Not. Buy. From. 1&1. That is, unless you enjoy bad customer support, poor performance servers, and battling with a horribly slow and arduous registrar system.

Totally agree. Had a dedicated at 1and1 and they were horrible.

So can you install any apps you want on these? I don't mind touching the command line, but I would want to put something like cpanel or webmin to make my life a little easier for day to day tasks.

Anything. You get a fresh install of whatever OS you choose. You can install many of those administrative front ends pretty easily, though you'd have to pay for a monthly VPS license (~$20/month for WHM/cPanel/Fantastico.) If you do end up going that route and want to install cPanel, I'd advise having CentOS installed as it is most conducive.

The beauty of these Xen based virtualization environments is that you have a lot more control than you might imagine. SliceHost allows you to get an admin terminal in even if the SSH service is down. The live scalability is pretty neat too. If your site is getting nailed one day, you can upgrade it (avg downtime during upgrade with SH is 5-10 minutes) and then downgrade again when traffic is back to normal.

If you want WHM/cPanel and managed hands down WiredTree.com

They also have fully pro-active monitoring, even on MySql so if the box goes down they bring it back up in minutes. They have these coupons right now:
