A large Vietnamese development company has screwed my client out of $5k.
They have 120 employees from what I believe and are quite large scale operation.

He deposited funds to develop a website, they never developed the website.
Now they are not responding to emails and phone calls.

Anyone make any suggestions to retrieve the cash?

They also have an address listed in the US.

Was thinking of an attack on their social media channels?

Neg. SEO scammers. Write shitty reviews - rank them. Use a shitty YT views service to take their videos down.

Hopefully they are not relying on you to recover their money then.

Did your client get the Vietnamese company to sign a contract and if so, under which country's laws are the terms governed?

First you need to see if they have a presence in the United States. If so you can file a lawsuit against
them for damages. How did your client pay them?

Let me tell you a secret; it is more like a single vietnameese person trying to scam people.

Next time make sure to do phone calls and triple check things with a business. I mean... if you have clients for that type of money you should have sorted a local team or at least go to india and set your own. Relying on third party companies is fine but it is your own duty to make sure they are legit and they will deliver. A chat on Skype won't cut it

He paid these developers before I met him with a credit card...but has since closed the bank account associated with the card.
He didnt sign a contract I believe.

I simply do videos for my client, these guys were supposed to build his website.

He shouldn't get the money back. He deserves to get scammed. Hopefully he learned from that.

I am not against outsourcing, but if your client is looking to have something big developed (smoothly), its best to either get it done locally (US/Canada) or hire a project manager with experience to handle outsourced projects. Otherwise, the chance of getting scammed (or receiving a half-assed project) is quite high. This is just my personal opinion, of course.

Good rule: If you are doing over $1K in business then be able to shake their hand.

took you 4 months to make a post and it says you don't believe him? say something useful, or don't bother mate.
Because you are from Vietnam it does not mean that there are no scammers in Vietnam mate.
And of course, because someone from Vietnam scammed him, it does not mean that all from Vietnam are scammers.
@OP, nice to hear you are trying to help your client even if you were not hired for that, but honestly 5k$ without knowing where he is giving the cash?
i dont think he will be able to retrieve his money, but you can try contacting local authorities.

    Best wishes
    Leobar
