I'm confused. Does this mean i get money if people click my ads?
You have this option - 'whether you want to display ads or not on your video' in your YT monetisation settings. If you disable it then no ads will be displayed. And if you enable it, you will only be paid if you have an adsense hosted/non-hosted account attached with that YT account.
It's better to link it with an adsense account to generate revenue. If you don't have one then you can easily get a hosted adsense publisher account on the same email.
thanks a lot. so i did what you said and linked it to my adsense account. The ads are still showing on the video but in the video manager the vids are not monetized. my videos are curated videos like "6 worst dancers" etc and youtube notified me with the "matched third party content".
i was noob enough to acknowledge it.
so no hope of monetizing these vids with adsense?
Check the 'Channel' tab on the right sidebar in the 'Video Manager'. It would list features that can be activated by you.
Check for Monetisation. If it has green light lit in front then you can monetize your original videos (You can't monetize copyrighted videos). It's unlikely for them to disable monetisation since it had never been disabled for me in past even if I acknowledged copyright claims.
If the uploaded video matches the third party content, ad might be shown and that will be credited to the person to whom that content belongs to.
I think I read it somewhere... But not sure !
nope, none of my videos are monetized.. guess i'll have to find another way to make money of them. can i at least disable the ads if i'm not making money off of them?
Yes, you can do that.
The third-party content is getting you. Because you don't have the rights then Youtube will show ads, with or without your permission
