I don't have any friends, I spent like 12 hours a day infront of my computer. sometimes I get really bored and I feel like doing nothing when I should be working mao. How many of you do the same and any advice?

I don't have friends because I'm in a new country, I used to have lots of people around me (friends) back in my country.

    Thanks guys!

Here's a great way to make lots of friends,

"You can make more friends in two months by becoming interested in other people than you can in two years by trying to get other people interested in you.

The best way to HAVE friends is to BE a friend.

    It's that simple :)

    Cheers!

I lost my job a while back, and the social support system I had at work along with it. This is my third big recession, and speaking from experience you definitely have to find some kind of social support system that involves human interaction. You'll find the more you socialize, the more productive you'll be in the time that you do work.

I don't recommend churches / synagogues / mosques unless you're serious about your religion. If your motivation for going is to meet people (or women for that matter) you will only develop very short-lived friendships/relationships.

Check out sites like Meetup.com and Meetin.org. They usually have groups and meetings for just about any kind of interest in most areas.

I found that my gym has a basketball league. I suck, but they had a team that fit my skill level. It's that kind of interaction that keeps me sane. Exercise will do wonders for your overall mood too.

    Hope this helps!

There is times to work and times to enjoy with friends...

When you don't work don't watch TV, go to a pub drink a beer looking at chicks

Or if you don't want to let your computer alone go on an MMORPG you will find a lot of "virtual friends" :D

fuck friends. have a set work schedule, go out, walk, go to a coffe shop, go to the beach, go for a drive. it's easy to spend 12 hours on the internet and not get work done.

when you're out it's bound to happen you'll meet peopel

    Hei mate,

our line of work can be very anti social. What I have done is make sure that I get the balance right. If I were you, I would pick up some sort of activities where you can socialise. Like gym , clubs, hobbies etc. Start volunteering somewhere. For instance I play tennis 1 a week with some guys, I volunteer for about 15 hours a week or even more. And do some other activities where I meet new people.

And definitely don't start smoking weed or anything. It will make you even less productive and more antisocial.

If you used to have friends before leaving your country, it only means you can get some new ones where you presently are.
Like everybody said, just find yourself a hobby that'll make you meet people. Join a gym, go out every afternoon for a walk and stop at a coffee place. Eventually you'll meet people.

Find something to do and someone to do it with!! You can not sit in front of a computer all day. It is not healthy. Your mind needs time to heel from coding/marketing and your body needs exercise.

I live in California, 3000 miles away from most of my family and any of my college friends, so I know how you feel going to a new country sort of. I would suggest you make a schedule for work and play.

For me, I work 12-15 hours a day on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, I take off Monday and Tuesday to go out and do things socially (even if it's just hanging out at a coffee shop or seeing a local band play, but I do still work 3-4 hours usually because I get bored), then Wednesday and Thursday I work half days (8 hours or so each).

I don't know if this is any help to you but hopefully you can figure something out. Good luck!

Moving to a new country can be a whole new experience.I'm an Army brat-so I moved alot growing up. Been to Germany twice and loved it there. Still don't understand some of the rough translations. IE- schweinhundt= pig dog :D

Anyway-not sure what country you moved to but try to enjoy it.

And being online does not have to be lonely-there is always aim or something like it.

A little off topic but heres another problem that can develop. I was on the PC for 12-14 hours a day and developed some serious muscle cramping in my back and inflammation in my shoulder. I was in pain for a year. Finally went to a massage therapist and walked out of the first session practically pain free. If you are having problems from too much PC get a professional massage. They will find the problem and fix them. Its an easy fix.

Aww, that's ok. I'll be your friend! lol srsly though the first thing you should do when you want to make friends is get away from the computer (unless you only want online friends, in which case, surf away...) Go to places where people hang out, and then... you know... hang out. Is there a nearby gym? Sign up for a membership, you could probably use the workout if you're spending that much time in front of a computer. Getting memberships at a club can help too. And don't forget the bars... you have to be intoxicated to a certain extent before you can program well anyway... not completely drunk... just enough to where you start to feel like you can beat anybody's ass... except as a programmer it's just enough to code any program...

Okay.....................................Wait for it...................join Adult Friend Finder. :D I've met good friends and girls there. Fine chicks and good friends. Since you're lonely spend time collecting friends of the sex opposite of you just for the friendship part. A guy with a bunch of good looking girls who a just friends is a magnet to all girls. I'm sure its the same for girls with guys.

Dude (or Babe :)) I'm serious, join Adult Friend Finders, protect yourself and don't let anyone on this forum ewhore you either. :D Go to the website on your own. ;)
