Recently I watched a report in TV, it looks like some people are becoming very rich through simple methods.
    Thought it might be interesting.

A guy hosts a number of sites, all pretend to offer free stuff.
As example one site is a portal to connect people together for driving partnership (so one guy with car splits his fuel bill by taking a few others nearby to work, etc)
Another site offers free downloads, the next one music samples and similar crap.

They all have a small sidenode, or a part in their legal terms that sets a monthly fee of 10-100$, to be paid for 12 months upfront. (or similar)

The people sign up for the "free" service and soon receive a bill for the year membership. The company itself can not be reached by phone or at the address, so they can only pay or ignore it.
If they ignore it they receive a letter from a lawyer telling them to pay now + the fee of the lawyer or face a lawsuit.

Well guess many heard about such methods already.

The most interesting part was when the reporters went to the bank of the "company" and asked them why they help them get their money.
The bank was pissed too but can't do stuff as the lawyer sued them to keep the account open.
That bank manager told the reporters that about 20,000 Euro are paid from 200-300 people daily to this account.

So they receive 20k Euro per day for all the bills they write, that's a million Dollar per month.

Not the right thing for me, I don't like to rip people that off. But interesting for sure, well and somewhat sad to see how easy it is to make so much money.

so hows that really really blackhat? It#s exactly the same as all the "free" ring tones. laws in germany are not much different concerning such things. He still needs to have the asterisks etc.

btw this been going on for years in germany.

I'd say it touches blackhat and it's on the borders of laws.
These guys are probably experts for online marketing to reach such masses of people.

Ringtones are also heavy business but people usually know they buy something, in that case they just get a bill for something they never ordered intentionally.

I know it has been going on for years but I had no idea they make that huge sums of money.
Imagine 20k Euro per day for years and all you have to do it outsource bill-writing and the lawyer letters.

Spend a day in my shoes and shit bricks, through my eyes I see a whole different world. Just one of the countless methods that brings in the cash; this is slightly greater than the average rich, but it is still built around the basis of a wealthy indivdual using legal loopholes. Loopholes are where the money is made.

    That is life...

Hmm why are people giving their personal details to these guys?

There is a scam company in australia that signs people up for a restaurant discount card for $5 per week. They make you sign all these forms and rush you to do it... if you read the fine print you see that you have signed up for 5 years prepaid - that is $1000 all at once. The salespeople who sell this get huge commissions and put on a lot of pressure etc.

Guys, this is all simple Contract Stuff. Basically that tick of the terms and conditions box say please rip me off! People get too exicted about free stuff and fall into the trap. but the fact is that it is all legal. Yeah the mobile phone fing tones was small amounts of money, but masses wanted the free ring tone without knowing what thyey was getting themselfves into. Now most of us know about it, but there are still people (mainly kids) that get bitten by it.

Any of us can do this kind of thing. Offer something for free which involves a long term contract. All you got to do is invest the money in legal fees to get a good contract made up and have a secondary service that will be offered with the free project. It is the kind of shit they are doing with the Holiday Clubs as well, just in a different form.

It's legal in germany, they usually never sue their "customers" they just keep writing them bills that become higher and higher.
It works for most, those without law-insurance risk a lot of money, they don't want to go to court and prefer to pay silent after some time.
