Let's say i'm looking for expired or expiring domains (on like godaddy auctions). Is there a way to know if a domain had a manual penalty or not? Also is there a way to know if a domain was redirected (301) in the past?

Check the backlink profile using moz, ahrefs and majestic if the metrics are good and link velocity is low the domain is good in my view. If it has PR, check the backlinks for PR if you find none it will lose it. I'm sure that you can find a more detalied "tutorial" here or by using G.

i'm looking at some old domain, with lots of backlinks. some domains have or don't have PR. some have a good link velocity some have a bad one. we all know PR can be faked. also the link profile or velocity cannot show if a website had a manual penalty or an algorithmic one. no tutorials on google on how to find if a domain had a manual penalty (only tuts on checking pr and da/pa - but they all can be easily manipulated).
so i'm still interested if someone know how to find out if a domain ever had a manual penalty (not an algorithmic one)
