Van Damme was great in Kickboxer, and Bloodsport...but real fighting? Cmon. Just look at how huge bisping's head is compared to his!!??! And Bisping got KTFO by Dan Henderson! Maybe Van Damme will have a shot in the uber super dinky featherweight childrens division.

He's too old. I doubt that he has the speed and cardio to compete with the young warriors of UFC or WEC.

Van Damme roam my area a lot - especially the partyscene. And of the 2 times I've seen him he always sport the yellow "glasses". Most people don't recognize him, neither do I, unless I take that extra peak.

Van Damme fighting? I thought it was bad when Herschil Walker signed up for it lol. I can't imagine Van Damme being the athlete that Walker is tho, so no way from here. He gets the RED light.

Yeah, he's way too old. He used to be a great fighter, though. He won several full contact competitions if I remember correctly, but he wouldn't stand a chance against an mma fighter.

Jean does look like he has been sick in that picture.

Now as far as 40 somethings NOT be able to still kick ass.....well, let's not forget The Natural, Randy Couture......still ass-kicking and very dangerous.

Of course Cap't America has years of solid MMA/Martial Arts training with many real fights in the octagon and that makes ALL of the difference.

I like Jean Claude.......it is unfortunate that at his peak, he found drugs/alcohol and they overcame his career as an actor and martial artist.

Not sure how well Herschel will do in MMA.......I have never seen him fight. But, he is a very well-condition athlete and has never let his training lapse. The problem is that he really should have started with some fights without all of the fanfare to get some experience.

MMA is combat sport. There are still rules to it and while it may be the closest to actual combat that many will come to, those rules do make a difference. I train in an MMA school and while I love MMA, I do point out to my children that many techniques CAN be countered (such as punching to the groin when someone first attempts a Guilliotine, front kicks to the groin, etc)....and the ground work involved is tremendous.

Without proper training and many years of training, an otherwise capable fighter will look inept, at best, against a well rounded MMA fighter.

Still, who knows? Many variables go into fights and Herschel may do well.

Chuck Norris is still the legend. Anyone CHOSEN by Bruce Lee based on their skills has to be his nemesis has to be good.

I don't think that it's his skills that got him the villain role in bruce lee's film, I think it was because he is caucasian (or because he looks hairy and scary) and that's what the role needs, a caucasian martial artist. If bruce lee really wanted a great martial artist, he would have chosen Dan inosanto or other top martial artist from his group of friends.

At that time, Chuck Norris was a recent World Champion:

"From 1964 to 1968, Chuck won many State, National, and International amateur karate titles. In 1968, Chuck fought and won the World Professional MiddleWeight Karate championships by defeating the World's Top Fighters. He held that title until 1974 when he retired undefeated.

In 1968, Chuck was inducted into the Black Belt Hall of Fame as Fighter of the Year. In 1975, he was inducted as Instructor of the Year and in 1977, Chuck received the honor of Man of the Year."

So, I am sure that this is what attracted Bruce to use Chuck Norris for Karate Champion role in the movie.

They also knew each other from an earlier demonstration that Bruce Lee did, showing his one inch punch at a major Karate tournament in California.

Bruce appeared to be the kind of guy that if he did not respect you, he told you. I am quite sure that he would not have chosen Chuck, if he did not respect his martial arts skills as well.

Their fight scene in the coliseum is one of the most famous fight scenes of all time, and there are multiple messages contained within the whole fight sequence, itself.

If you look at Bruce's movies, most, if not all of those that he fought with or against were hand-picked based on their various martial arts skills. He was a fanatic about being perfect in his fight scenes, whether it was of his own movements or those of the others around him.

I think the best example of that is Enter The Dragon. Even the other actors were real martial artists and in one scene, a very young Jackie Chan is one of the bad guys.

So, while I respect your opinion, the facts do not support it.

Chuck was chose for his skill, not for being caucasian.
