I try to get my RSS feeds syndicated wherever I can. I know it helps with initial link velocity for a post, but I'm wondering if there's really any long-term value if the link doesn't stay on the site?

I can make the argument that "visibility generates more visibility", so if it increases the actual visitors to the post, then it could increase social shares, additional organic links, new subscribers, repeat visitors to my site, etc. But is there any other benefit? Or once the link's gone, it's gone?

When the link is gone you will lose all the SEO benefits that link had.

I have clicked through on some of these links from Google search onto a news site, only to find the actual story was no longer there. It seems that the link was indexed very quickly and appeared in Google search for the keyword I was searching but when I went to take closer look, the link I wanted was gone. So in a way, it's a big so what! The person got their site link on that news home page but likely no click throughs as the link was gone too fast. Now, was there any lasting SEO benefit from Google's point of view? Really, I don't know how Google judges news sites where it's common to cycle content off of a site quickly or to use RSS feeds for new content daily. If they treat it like any other link that gets dropped quickly, then it won't be a good thing.

The link still has no lasting SEO benefit because its gone.

Lets say google gave me a homepage link and my site went to #1 for whatever keyword, 10 days later google removes the link. My ranking would drop.

The second the link is gone all SEO benefits go with it.
