There's a domain name I want. Domain is registered in 1999. All it has been doing is redirecting to another site all this time.
It has 60,000 US searches per month. It is a .org.
    It's a nice short domain.
It's just a generic product like 'faucets'.
    I'd really like this domain.
He has a few that he doesn't really use other than redirect. I think he's an older guy, and might want more than it's actually worth, but it's actually a pretty good domain. But I dont' think he understands domains aren't as valuable as they used to be.
He's at $15,000 right now. But there's no way I'm interested in it for that price. Maybe if I had a ton of money laying around I could see it as an investment, but at this time it's not reasonable.
I just sold a similar domain to someone for about $3000, but they aren't really comparable so I'm not too sure.

Any opinions? With the limited info I can give?

I'd lowball the ever living shit out of him. Start at $150 -- say that you'd be willing to pay for every year he has had it registered. 1999-2014 is 15 years. From there, inch your way up to whatever you're actually willing to pay. Just let him know that some domains are up for incredibly high prices, but they don't sell for that unless it comes with a website and user base. See if there's anything you can do to sweeten the deal for him, like do some SEO for his existing site. Otherwise, move along.

What's its value? Can't you work out roughly what that traffic is worth - like by checking the niche, keywords, cpc etc?
then value any other assets - the domain itself, any content on there (doesn't sound like there is any)?

The value of domain depends on many factors. If it's 60.000 us searches and competition is very low I would say that worth more than $15.000 but if the competition is high then the domain value is decreased...

Maybe he is interested in something you got.
Send a list of what you have and you can set a lowering of the price.

Told him I'd pay him $2,000 and and 10% of revenue until I give him another $5000.
He told me someone offered him $6,000 via wire transfer.
    He's obviously BSing.

Should I stick to my price and tell him to take it?
Should I offer another $2,000 via 10% of revenue. Really in the long run it's not a big deal.

If it as a low competition, give him $5,000 and go for it.

What I'd recommend to do is use a yet not registered domain that has the same word in it but something else as well. That way you can get a domain that is almost as good as this one for $2 to $10.

Depended on the niche. I have a .net domain for 70k us searches per month, health niche. From 25k , I was able to get it for 15k. 14 years old I think. I don't remember exactly.

Ended up paying $5500 for it. I think that's a fair price. Probably could be worth more. More than I ideally wanted to pay, but I'm pretty happy.
