I found some keywords long tail but as usual they are crowded with sites like walmart, amazon and such.

They are only 800-1000 MS keywords so I wonder if it's even worth trying to outrank them.

PS: None of the top 10 have the keywords in title/desc/h1 etc.

The sites you mentioned generally rank well due to the overall power of their domains. Many of these product type KW's won't be that difficult.

hmm I wonder but that's definitely true that they are ranking on domain power alone since they don't even mention the keywords once in title/desc/h tags.

I suppose I should give it a try even though I already have my hands full with 2 websites that I'm trying to rank

In g00gle - it's doable but will take time, in the rest on the search engines - 2 days with heavy spam ( like explained here ) ;)

I've outranked Amazon before, and it took me a pretty long time to do. I've been targeting it for months but had to go the "long way around" and really wanted some solid authority for the site before I did a bunch of links to the money page. You've gotta make sure the content is actually worth reading, has exciting headlines, low bounce rates, and of course some killer links. Trying to outrank Amazon with shitty 3 page affiliate sites isn't going to work, you actually need to build authority around sites these days.

It's gotten worse since he posted this. SERPs are totally dominated by big brands.

Not without getting some good links.

And I do mean quite a few.

It is possible because I am currently outranking Nushield, Wallmart, Bestbuy. I've not even done anything to the site for a couple of months. Posts just needs to be worth reading and on page should be good. And the site only have about 12 posts.

So yah it is possible to outrank big brand names.
