Hey guys,

Every time I upload a new vid to my porn tube I tweet it - however, I'm currently using bitly to shorten the link. My question is, does Google still process the link even though it's shortened? I.e., by using a url shortener, am I missing out on a backlink?

Thanks!

bit.ly links do not appear in Google Webmaster Tools, so they will not help you with SEO.

url shortener's like bit.ly gives 301 redirect to your links,so 100% google will process your links but they don't index shortened links, they consider only original links to which they are redirected(your porn link). so shortened links will not appear in google webmasters tools...

Thanks for the responses guys. Based on that, would I be better off just posting the complete URL in each tweet?

If your full links contain many characters this will not look good on twitter. You can try to redirect from your server links like youdomain/mycode to your desired full link and then tweet yourdomain/mycode link. This will help for SEO but be aware that twitter links are not do-follow.

Yeah I was going to suggest this. Whip up a short URL code that is displayed in the information section for every video. People might share that themselves even.

it doesn't matter that the links are no-follow...no-follow links are perfectly fine...

No i don't think they are effective for SEO. The shortened links are not shown in Google webmaster. so Google don't count them. That's why they have no value dude. :(
