Hi Im sure all of you as well as me are using nulled scripts downloaded from this forum, rapidshare, mediafire and from other resources such as torrents. Im guessing like me you use these to set up sites on various platform such as wordpress.

For example some of my sites use premium wordpress themes, API scripts, and website scripts that I do not own or hold a license to. On these sites I use monetising methods such as affiliate networks among others.

However on one of my sites I have been emailed by the copyright holder of the wordpress theme saying that he knows of no sale to this domain, and please could I email him proof that I personally bought it. It is actually him as I checked the email and contact details - so its not a scammer trying to get any payment details etc.

All my domains are done through proxy so he does not know who I am, but he could get my hosting account suspended or even contact my affiliate networks to get me banned.

What do I do? Is there anyway I can fake it or get around these issues now and in the future.

Have any of you had this problem and how did you deal with it.

Any advice would be helpful.

Thanks.

Not really a way to get around it. The best thing that you can do is actually buy the theme. It's not as if they are that expensive, it's worth it.

At the end of the day if you have got the money then just try to be as legit as you can, if you have not then don't go straight for nulled scripts and templates - look for cheaper or free alternatives that do the job. It will save the hassle and you will feel better about it.

I'd purchase that template off the official site and then get in contact with him. It's really not work risking your affiliate account or hosting over it.

just say to him that you thought the theme was free and it was available widely over the net. if he ask where did you find it, just upload the file to rapidshare, and give the link to him. and after that, if he told you the script is for sale, just tell him you're sorry and will remove the theme.

maybe this will help... :D

then move to the next theme.... hehe

yeah, I agree with josh. Or just replace the theme to avoid more legal complications.

buy the theme if your making money out of your site. If not, use other theme than risk losing your hosting account

Might be good to let us know which theme/s has or have given you this "problem", please ? :o

This could at least help some folks avoid a similar situation, perhaps?

Thank youl.

Cheerio :)

Yep sorry just noticed I posted this in this section. Was suppose to put it in the lounge. For future reference. If people have legal problems, paypal issues, stuff they need advice on. Where should we post it?

Set up a one page site on a free host offering people free themes and plugins if they email you etc. Put the files you use in a folder with a dir list. If they break your balls over it and threaten you etc, send them the link to where you got it. Claim ignorance, say sorry and drag it out as long as you can until you have the site set up with a new theme etc.

Stuff is floating around for "free" everywhere. There is no way people know if they should have paid for something or not unless it is clearly states somewhere. Claim ignorance and set yourself up with plan b and you should be fine. Oh and keep a copy of that dummy site to move somewhere else the next time you get caught!
