Using newspaper classifieds like craigslist?

There is the age old trick on craigslist of giving away something for free and then saying something like "dont have it anymore, here is my aff link to a similar offer/product/bullshit". My question is: is it legal to do this with a real paper classified ad?

Not that I would do something so saturated, but let's say I was selling my laptop at some good ass price and told people to email me. A few days later, I tell them that I no longer have it but they could get one cheap <here> (aff link).

Aside from moral issues, is there anyway to get in trouble for this?

How about say "Free for first 50 visitors" then tell them they are number 51?

I have seen people putting data entry job on classified ... after that, people need to fill up the application (CPA of course) to get the details of the job which does not exist.

I think you could get into some very, very deep shit doing something like this. I'll put it this way: I wouldn't reccomend doing something like this to my friends...

If someone is really pissed off after they find out you were bullshitting, they could take you to court for fraud or the like. I wouldn't mess around with something like this, there's just too many other safer ways to try to make a buck. JMHO

That's the trouble of running a blackhat method... we have to be behind a proxy all the time.
 
It's not really illegal, as long as you keep it quite you never had the product in the first place, who's to tell you that you never sold a laptop? I don't think the police will be able to do much, just say you have no evidence you bought/sold the laptop, but they have no evidence that you NEVER did buy the laptop, or sell it on.

Why would you put an ad in the paper anyway? Quicker doing it online and more people will probably see it. There is no legal issue here because how the fuck is anyone gonna know you were bullshitting and even if they did you think people have nothing better to do than go to court over this shit. get real!
 
Now I love offline marketing but I think there are way better ways to use it than this.
I've seen a few here that are golden. Try searching around ;)

In this economy, people are way more likely to file frivelous lawsuits simply because theyre short of cash.
 
Classic bait & switch I do not really see the legal issue here just use a shill if need be who says he got what you advertised
