It seems that using expired/deleted domains for a money site can speed up your ranking. However, the expired domain may not be as brandable as a fresh domain. I want to know get an idea if 301 redirects can do the same or better job as building the money site on the expired domain.

Yes, 301 redirects can help boost rankings of your new domains.

I've done 2-3 with good results, I haven't done any testing, but my gut tells me not to go above that.

I have not seen anything that suggests a limit to how many domains you can redirect to a site before it becomes an issue but I would say that it depends on the age / authority of the site you are redirecting to. If you have an aged site then redirecting another domain to it could just be through a genuine business type transaction, redirecting traffic for example but if it all becomes obvious that it is being done purely for SEO benefit that is when it could become a problem in the future.

I would much rather build out the expired domains and create a PBN of my own bidding and then link relevant content to the money site, this is far more sustainable and natural seeming and could also create a couple of other money sites along the way if each site is creating with some decent content.

Absolutely 301 redirect for expired domain, that's a great way to give your website an initial boost.

Have any of you actually tried 301 ? I have tried redirecting high quality expensive domains and it doesn't work. Basically 0 effect, better use them as PBNs.

now, I am absolutely confused... I personally planned to build a PBN but find it kind of expensive and I was already considering having a 301 redirect to the new domain.. who has tried 301 redirect and it works?

i think 301 redirect expired domain only works if the niche is highly relevant. you need to check what the site was and its backlink profile. if it's highly relevant to yours then it's good. if it's not highly relevant you better use it as PBN imo

Totally agreed. I've done this before but no SERP movement or whatsoever. PBN all the way.

I recently bought my first expired domain and 301 this to a new domain. It had great (positive) effects on my website! I can only recommend this.
Any of you guys have experience in buying these? When the domain is, let's say 10 years old but haven't been used for two years, will it still be interesting?

Of course I'm looking for the targeted keyword in URL when 301 but I'm curious about your experience in buying domain who haven't been used for a while. Thanks!

Jamlip... the domain which you did 301 to a new domain.. are the two domain very related in terms of keyword or niche... or is it a brandable domain, because i want to do something like that but I doubt if i can get a domain closely related to my niche.
    thanks

The keyword I am willing to rank for was in the url (not exact but almost). In my experience, almost every niche is findable.. Good luck :)

There could be some movements in SERP if 301 redirects from quality domains is done in moderation. In essence, more than 2-3 301 redirects can hurt your rankings.

In order to test out this strategy, I decided to build several sites on expired domains while also picking up several domains with the intent of 301 redirecting them to a brandable URL.

A 301 basically says a site has moved permanently.
