I'm still a newbie so please forgive the "stupid" question. I have been reading about using google alerts and how they let you know about new articles and such coming out related to your niche. Since copying the entire article and re-posting it would be duplicate content and hurt my site (right?), what do I do with the articles I find? Do I spin the article and then post it as my own, or write a few sentences summing it up and then post a link to the full article and tell the users to "read the full article here:" sort of thing?

Re-write it in your own words, or buy an article of someone on a similar topic. It's probably best to have a unique title and unique content, even if it's only slightly unique and based on the original article

Yes, duplicate content will kill you in Google. :)

Definitely keep the traffic on your site. More time spent on your site means heavier authority on Google, and more potential to explore the rest of your site after they finish reading the article.
